33 years ago I was told by my priest that in his eyes (the eyes of the church), I wasn't even married and that to have my daughter christened, it would be required that I re-marry in a catholic church, that was the beginning of the end for me with religion. what nonsense!!!

No, but the original manuscripts which made up the Bible have a lot of contradictory accounts which suit the respective agendas of the various authors. The authors of the gospels didn't write them until half a century after Jesus's death and they are written to suit the later time. During Jesus's life, the Saducees were of much greater influence than the Pharisees yet it tis the Pharisees who take centre stage in much of the gospel stories because they were more prominent at the time the gospels were written. It is also clear that during Jesus's ministry, he was not concerned with converting gentiles, merely Jews, but at the time of Paul's writings, the early Christian church had begun to expand to gentiles and this is reflected in Acts. Earlier manuscripts of the gospels blame Jesus's arrest and execution firmly at the hands of the Romans, not the Jews, but later amendments introduce Pilate 'washing his hands' as a way of diverting the blame from the Roman gentiles, many of whom were beginning at this stage to convert to Christianity.

However a poster above mentioned Islam as intolerant of other religions. This is not the case , in fact in times of the Crusades it was tolerant of all religions. I am afraid it was the Christian Crusaders who were intolerant. Christians have a habit of this since they evolved in Pagan times.
