Serious poll?
If Whitts is played further forward and has a striker like Chopra making great runs then it's Whitts every day of the week.
McPhail for me, all day.Originally Posted by saganspirit wrote on Fri, 20 February 2015 01:14
Both superb CM's at this level.
McPhail's vision was ridiculous though, Whittingham is an all-round better playerOriginally Posted by The Bob Banker Spanker wrote on Fri, 20 February 2015 01:24
Comparing a genuine central midfield talent with a winger/midfielder! It's like comparing Paul Scholes with Ryan Giggs in central midfield.Originally Posted by Baker wrote on Fri, 20 February 2015 02:28
Mcphail was 25/26 when he signed for us ,after a couple of years with barnsley in league 1.You make it sound as if he spent 15 years in the premier league and joined us in his twilight yearsOriginally Posted by The Penguin wrote on Sat, 21 February 2015 11:14
Both great players for us but Whitts had/has got more goals in him and what goals they have been too.
McPhail and Scimeca was the best centre midfield partnership we've had in recent years, complemented each other brilliantly.Originally Posted by old blue wrote on Sat, 21 February 2015 12:29
I will go further. Comparing him to Whittingham in central midfield is an insult to him, and Whittingham would agree with me.Originally Posted by Capt. Darling wrote on Sat, 21 February 2015 11:46
Glad this is generating a bit of healthy debate. I'm slightly surprised at as many as a third have voted for McPhail, as some will take Whittingham's career for us into account while there'll be a few who won't have seen McPhail play for us.
For what it's worth, I'm with Penguin every step of the way here. Even Malky in his first season was keen for McPhail to be his playmaker in the middle but injuries took their toll and he rarely appeared for us when Malky took over. McPhail also had a good knack of knowing when to slow a game down or when to speed things up. He was often called powderpuff and McFail, but his partnership with an average Gavin Rae wasn't great. Whittingham has many great attributes but he's arguably too laid back to be a good centre midfield playmaker.
Yes. Why do you think it wasn't? A decent comparison of why Whitts is a much superior centre midfielder to McPhail is the reply I'm looking forOriginally Posted by Daniel15 wrote on Fri, 20 February 2015 00:48
Interestingly, when asked who he thought was the best player he had seen at Cardiff during his time here, Whittingham named Mcphail!
The guy is clueless mate don't even bother replying to him.Originally Posted by Capt. Darling wrote on Sat, 21 February 2015 11:46
