1 Robert Plant
2 Mick Jagger

5 Jimi Hendrix
Freddie would probably be in the top 10 though

I'm not a big fan of Queen, nor Freddie tbh, but how anybody could miss the point of the post so much as to suggest he isnt up there as one of the great frontmen of all time is beyond me.
He just clearly was. You dont have to like him to acknowledge that.
Live Aid, and also event like Rio etc - huge events that he totally controlled crowds of nearly half a million on occasion.
All of that said, .. Freddie/Queen doesnt float my boat.
I'm going to suggest that Joe Srummer doesnt get overlooked in this acolade.
Ian Astbury
Not a big queen fan but, Freddie at Live Aid has made this topic a little needless, the other choice of Gallagher however, is laughable
It's probably Jesus Christ Allin.
You know, someone who will go the extra yard.
They appeared live at Cardiff Castle back in the mid-70's.Originally Posted by Phil1927 wrote on Tue, 10 March 2015 08:55
Matt Rimmer of Vibration White Finger pushes him a close second though. He was exceptional at the old BarflyOriginally Posted by heath/ccfc wrote on Tue, 10 March 2015 13:22
Hawkwind's awesome front man, the late great Bob Calvert, should be included in a list of all-time greats too
September '76 to be precise

Yeah he often comes second to Freddie Mercury when Q do these lists.Originally Posted by Peace Frog wrote on Tue, 10 March 2015 13:59
Jimi Hendrix. End of.
I was at Live Aid. I wasn't a Queen fan but Freddie Mercury's performance was stunning, you knew you were watching a global superstar and probably the world's leading frontmanOriginally Posted by heath/ccfc wrote on Tue, 10 March 2015 13:22
There are plenty of big names mentioned in this thread who were very good at singing, playing guitar etc. but were not necessarily good "showmen" which I think is a necessity for a good front man. I was never a particular fan of Queen, in fact Bohemian Crhaposody is one of my pet hates, but Freddie Mercury certainly had a stage presence.

Not a huge fan but Jagger has lasted longer than most, has sold more records than all of them -probably and is certainly a showman if nothing else.
Honourable mentions for Plant, Bobby Womack and Joe Strummer.
quite surprised ,Joe Strummer ain't got a mention. But John Lydon is up there.
You find that quite often with music threads. People confuse 'best' with 'what I like most'. But it should be possible to appreciate the qualities in something you don't like.Originally Posted by Vimana. wrote on Tue, 10 March 2015 12:51
What about Bruce Springsteen who plays for hours and seems to thoroughly enjoy it. I saw Queen in the castle and the only down side was the rain. Also, saw Led Zeppelin at Knebworh where Plant was very poor..
Jagger for me - could whip a crowd up to frenzy with a click of finger
as an outsider choice... Noddy Holder in his heyday could grab a crowd by its balls!...
As a showman Freddie Mercury, for the voice Robert Plant.
