The US government employed the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to pass through some unpopular bill. Not quite the same but shows how it can work.

Whilst half a million people in Britain sign a petition to re-instate a bigot television presenter, whipped up by 'media ferenzy' the real issues go pretty much unnoticed. How come this was not even mentioned until it was a done deal, and how can a government just 2 months from (probably) being voted out of office be allowed to let this happen.

Lets all celebrate the mainstream media

I don't see what the Clarkson matter has to do with it.Originally Posted by clearly offside wrote on Sat, 14 March 2015 11:38
The Media report celebrity trivia whilst ignoring the issues that's what it has to do with Clarkson. Why were they not investigating what must have been a fairly easy lead, censorship perhaps?Originally Posted by JamesWales wrote on Sat, 14 March 2015 11:47

Real democracy would mean openness and referendums on real policies. The fact that people feel totally removed and uninterested in politics is clear, and makes it easier for the grey suits to do as they please. I can't see how we will ever have a true democracy until this is the case.Originally Posted by Vimana. wrote on Sat, 14 March 2015 12:03
I thought the intended purpose of the Clarkson story was to bury the Thatcher one?
Well, I'd certainly be willing to believe that he might be one of the 1st in line to offer his 'distraction services' for Maggie and for the Tory Party.Originally Posted by Gluey wrote on Sat, 14 March 2015 13:27
NHS Supply Chain operated by DHL.
Has the alternative media been pushing this story the last few months?
Whilst 650,000 people voted in favour of voting to reinstate bigot Jeremy Clarkson, well done to the other 63 million population who chose not to.

It was an ironic/Clarkson joke m8 - he's made a career out of what people who think his ignorance is funny - he's a bigot, racist/homophobic/mysogysnist/ hates welsh (is there a word?)Originally Posted by clearly offside wrote on Sat, 14 March 2015 18:50

So you're complaining about the mainstream media because they didn't report something that was in the guardian??Originally Posted by clearly offside wrote on Sat, 14 March 2015 11:38
Na, i'm having a whinge about the fact that all this was reported after the event. The guardian are the only 'newspaper' source I saw that covered it, every other was reporting Clarkson is a dinosaur - his words seemingly.Originally Posted by redjk wrote on Sat, 14 March 2015 21:56

Now I've read the article, I have to say it's predictable media scaremongering again.
What has happened here is that NHS Supply chain (which is a joint NHS/DHL venture) which is basically the organisation who organises the procurement and logistics needs of NHS hospitals has created a framework for hospitals to use. A framework in this context, is a public sector procurement tool aimed at establishing framework agreements which allows public sectors bodies to contract/outsource goods and services with suppliers more easily, without having to go through a more onerous, full EU procurement exercise. It is NOT "selling off huge chunks of the NHS" or "privatisation", it is simply a contract which makes it easier for hospitals to outsource services IF THEY WANT TO.
By the way, the article is unclear (shocker), about when exactly the framework starts. Assuming the award notice has just been published, the exercise would've commenced, and been made public, at least two months ago, probably longer, with the publication date of the final award being fixed and made public knowledge at that time.
So unless Jeremy Clarkson was in cahoots with the government to deliberately get himself suspended in order to "bury" some news stories, this whole thread is a yet again, a load of bollocks, contributed to in the main by people who have no idea what they're talking about and taking predetermined political positions. Sorry.
Nowhere near as many people have signed it, but I just have and it's there now for anyone on here who feels the same about the infantile clown as I do.Originally Posted by clearly offside wrote on Sat, 14 March 2015 18:50
