    The irony is that in South Wales, Wales is pronounced with the single syllable and in North Wales it is pronounced as above Way-uls.

    I pronounce it like a German and say 'Vales' which does at least give a tip of the hat to one element of the nations geography.

    Living in England I tend to just save myself the confusion and refer to myself as 'a sheep-shagging prick' rather than Welsh, when asked.
