Its the right to buy all over again , huge discounts to win votes
They never change
Until this country moves closer to the Dutch and German mixed housing tenure instead of pushing the obsession for everyone to buy rather than have affordable housing and more cheaper renting across the board we and future generations are doomed

Does Britain have any legislation that states what the government's role is and what they must do ?
Are you allowed to buy your home before you're kicked out for having too many bedrooms?
No, you'll be forced to move to a smaller home and then your house will be sold privately as councils are being forced to sell of A THIRD of their social housingOriginally Posted by The Bloop wrote on Tue, 14 April 2015 08:35
I'm ambivalent to this. Home ownership is a good thing for some and not so others. But for those who are against it could you explain why, other than it being a conservative policy? As far as I can see, there will be no change in the overall housing stock and the only difference will be who owns the properties.
You realise the taxpayer foots the bill for every single discount given right?Originally Posted by The Local Boy wrote on Tue, 14 April 2015 09:09

Sludge - in 2 minds over this.
If your family have lived in a Council House / Housing Association house all your life and you've been paying rent etc - wouldnt you as a family want to be given the opportunity to buy - no more dead rent money and a family asset ? - why wouldnt anyone want that ?
It does depend then what the Council / Housing Association then does with the money surely ? , if they re invest it in new housing then fair enough - if they dont - then they have a problem.
deep down sludge knows its a good idea. unfortunately he got a chip on his shoulder because Maggie closed the pits , which he wanted to work in, and took his school milk away.Originally Posted by Jimmy Jimmy wrote on Tue, 14 April 2015 09:26
Is this the new breed of socialism Mick, I got my house I don't want anyone else to get theirs ?
Its just the greedy Tories looking after their fat cat friends and their own share prices.Get ready for thousands more revenge evictions.A thing the Tories refused to tighten up on.Now we know why.Show me a Tory and i will show you a cheat and a liar.Originally Posted by heath/ccfc wrote on Tue, 14 April 2015 10:06
Totally agree with your first paragraph-I wonder how many opposing this actually own their homes.Originally Posted by Jimmy Jimmy wrote on Tue, 14 April 2015 09:26
Its only in England.
Yes, that's correct, the Welsh Government don't want to see people having social mobility and independence from the shackles of the state.Originally Posted by ken smith wrote on Tue, 14 April 2015 10:20
Does Sludge live in social housing? If he does fair play for his stance.
You first point has some merit. But why the discount? The second point is spot on but if you sell something at a massive discount and then simply build another one with that money, you will eventually end up broke surely?Originally Posted by Jimmy Jimmy wrote on Tue, 14 April 2015 09:26
You don't have to live in social housing to realise that maintaining a signficant stock is neccessary for the country...Originally Posted by ken smith wrote on Tue, 14 April 2015 10:24
No one is going to be evicted FFS what goes on in your head ?
From what has been said - if you currently live in a housing association house - like my Mrs mate does with her daughter - she now has the right to buy the place if she wants to at a discounted rate - which takes into account how much rent they have already paid. If she doesnt want to buy the property - then she stays where she is.
I live in Social Housing so as long as they replace one for one I think its good. However we all know politicians lie so in theory it will be bollocks.
From what I heard the discount available depends on how long they have been in the property. The longer you have been there - the more rent you have paid - the bigger the discount.
The cost to build a house is not the same as the market value of the house. What they should do though is put in a clause that they cant resell for x number of years. Or you get the situation you had with John Prescotts son - where they were apparently going around and offering to buy the property from the person who had just bought it from the Council.
They have also said there will be a fund for new housing that will be topped up by the Govt.
Of course the taxpayer will subsidise this. I'm not sure such wealth distribution is an issue. Why is homeownership such a problem? Why can't those who earn enough to be taxed assist those who can't afford their own home?Originally Posted by Kiffa wrote on Tue, 14 April 2015 09:25
You must be joking. Sludge lives off his parents estate. A big inheritance and lording it up in Cowbridge while the rest of us struggle to make ends meet. He defo doesn't live in council housing.Originally Posted by Eric Cartman wrote on Tue, 14 April 2015 10:32
