One realistic signing this summer - Mikel Arteta

I thought this was a good thread but didn't want my suggestion to get lost in the handbags being slung about in the original thread.

We all know we've been in desperate need of leader on the field and someone to control the midfield area itself and I've thought for some time that Arteta or someone like him could is just what we need if the owner is serious about getting his money back.

There may be better value out there and there are a few things against Arteta - age (he's 33), returning from injury, would want good wages and so on. On the other hand he (or someone like him)would demonstrate the club's intentions and I'm sure would make the good players we've got play up to their ability.

Now, without losing sight of the topic, any other suggestions, please?

I just don't see us signing anyone anywehre near that calibre. It's all down to Tan really, but at the moment we have made it quite clear we can't afford the players we do have. I really don't see us getting someone who would be our top earner by a distance.

As good a player as he is I would far rather we invest in some younger players. There is no doubt we need someone to controkl the midfield but I'm not sure Arteta is that type of player, I don't think the current brand of football would see him getting on the ball often enough.

Slade could sign Arteta, Sanchez, Rambo, Ozil and Cazorla and still wouldn't know what to do with them!

We do not need to sign a 33 year old Spaniard on mega wages (again) who will slow our midfield down. We need pace and power in the middle so Whitts can walk around like Pirlo, we need mobility and goal threat up front and fullbacks who offer balance between attack and defence.

I actually believe Tan was probably best advised for once to take this approach to the club manager (Malky fitted this profile perfectly) - what recruitment profile came up with Slade God only knows cos I can't see any ambitious young player wanting to come here at the moment as Slades tactics are 40 years out of date

I'm not entirely sure Slade does tactics. He was supposed to be one of the top man managers in the country (apparently) but I don't think we've seen any particular strength from him yet - a nice guy who is suited to jobs at Yeovil or Plymouth.

Utterly ridiculous suggestion, will end up at a mid table premier league club, why would he want to go to us who are paying low salaries, with a s*** manager, who won't play tactics to even slightly suit a player of Arteta's class.
