Legendary councillor, activist, choristor, old school socialist and all round thorn in the side of the establishment passed away last night.
He had been diagnosed with terminal illness just last week and passed on peacefully last night.
They don't make them like Ray any more.
I'm very saddened to hear that. I knew Ray and you are right - he was quite a character. I supported him in a demo at Caerphilly Magistrates during the anti-poll tax campaign. In return members of Cor Cochion Caerdydd came to Bargoed magistrates where I was up for non-payment - and they sung their hearts out. He also provided some useful advice to me around 15 years ago now. He will be missed, especially by old lefties like me - we need more of his kind, not less.Originally Posted by archibald leitch wrote on Fri, 08 May 2015 13:18
Would that be the time when the magistrate wanted him arrested for turning up in court dressed as father Christmas? I was there then. They had to adjourn cos everyone linked arms with him started singing carols and passing around mince pies.Originally Posted by Gwynedd Blue wrote on Fri, 08 May 2015 13:31

Oops. Double post. Bloody phone.
A man of great principles not many like any more will be missed.rip Ray.
I have a vague recollection of the father Christmas thing - but am not sure if this was the same occasion. I know that this was about non-payment of poll tax and I can remember lying down in the road to stop vehicles moving - and being carried out of the way by police (I think?).Originally Posted by archibald leitch wrote on Fri, 08 May 2015 14:23
Very passionate in his beliefs, whether you agreed with them or not. RIP Ray.
That is terrible news . Proper Socialist who fought tooth and nail for good .
A lot of todays Labour would do well to emulate him.
R.I.P.
RIP ray you sound like a right old character
you can have a go at Maggie now
Sympathey to family and friends
For a minute i thought it said Ron Davies had passed away, then i thought "oh no,the public toilets in Caerphilly will close for 5 minutes as a mark of respect for him"
