Two great cup runs in the last two seasons must have had a detrimental effect on their league performances. A ridiculous sacking imo.
Not sure what I think of Clough. He hasn't shown anything to suggest he's a potential top manager in League 1 with the squad he's got. He was a bit of a disappointment at Derby and most of their worst seasons in recent times were when he was manager.
Yes, it was an achievement for Sheffield Utd to make an FA cup semi final last season. When an underdog gets that far but still doesn't compete as well as it should in the league it suggests a lack of consistency. We made the FA cup final in a season where we hardly threatened the playoffs. I see similarities with the Blades from last season - obviously enough talent in the side to win games, even against sides in higher divisions, but without the "monotonous consistency" as Malky would put it.
Obviously the Blades don't feel they have progressed under Clough. By progressed I think that means promoted. A club like Sheffield Utd needs to be in the Championship at least. Cup runs are a luxury. I can see why Clough has been sacked.
