Yes I would !
She strikes me as a modern day Debbie Gibson. Wonder what she's doing nowadays?
Though , according to that ^ she did do a spread ( ) for Playboy.Originally Posted by Mario Miethig wrote on Tue, 26 May 2015 09:23
Shall we reinact the 2009 VMAs incident?
Tbf she is a good role model in how she interacts with her fans and has many sales and awards.
But her songs are mostly about breakups (I know Shake it off is an exception) so she needs to vary it.
She does have some good, catchy songs but I think other singers, like Chris Brown and Beyoncé are more talented but they are mainly RnB so it would be hard to compare.
Wow, didn't know that, maybe Taylor Swift will go down the same routeOriginally Posted by Vimana. wrote on Tue, 26 May 2015 09:29
I've heard his name a lot recently, what band is he in ?
She is soloOriginally Posted by heath/ccfc wrote on Tue, 26 May 2015 10:05
Right, you said musician. See other thread. Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Eminem. But hard to compare (mainly) rappers to singers so yeah.
That's why they have to sample everyone else's work...Originally Posted by adz-a32 wrote on Tue, 26 May 2015 10:28
Swifty makes a fairly big chunk of her own songs and then co-writes a bunch of others. SHe's great.
Important musician ?
Don't know much about her really.
In terms of her musical ability......
How many instruments has she mastered ?
What are her composition and arrangement skills ?
Can she play comfortably in any key ?
Can she sight-read comfortably in any key
Can she transpose at sight ?
What are her improvisation skills ?
Or is she someone who has demonstrated a degree of talent in a fairly narrow musical genre, is quite decorative and is very well promoted ?
I guess the key word is 'important'. You can be the most important musician without being the most talented.Originally Posted by Enoch Mort wrote on Tue, 26 May 2015 11:21
You are right but I wouldn't want to confuse the word 'important" with the word "successful".Originally Posted by lardy wrote on Tue, 26 May 2015 11:22
Her songs are liked by most people, if not liked then enjoyed. Not many artists can do that. And have a career in pop when she comes from a country background. A modern day madonna with a bit more class.
And my god she is hot....
the drummer from foo fighters?
Got to admit, Shake it off and Blank Space are quality songs.Originally Posted by Barry Dragon wrote on Tue, 26 May 2015 11:52
If so, we may not like it, but I suspect we will just have to accept it.Originally Posted by Enoch Mort wrote on Tue, 26 May 2015 11:31
By that definition she is therefore important although, for all I know, she may not be much of a musician. Perhaps she is just an important musical figure ? Still, if she keeps practising she will become a better musician even though her "importance" may fade .Originally Posted by Vimana. wrote on Tue, 26 May 2015 13:08
I have a 12yo daughter so I hear a fair bit of Taylor Swift.
The 1989 album is pretty good compared to a lot of stuff that she tortures me with, I wouldn't chose to listen to it but neither would I make her switch it off.
I dont know much about her or her stuff TBH, so I just read up a bit.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor_Swift
It seems she writes, performs, plays geetar, acts etc ..
Also seems that she was very driven to be a Country Performer from an early age. Quite impressive determination TBH.
