Fantastic band, but I think they were a thousand times better pre Friday I'm in love. Seemed to lose their quality after that
some brilliant stuff early doors. not a fan of that tune myself
Saw them at Hammersmith Palais in 1981, great gig, great band at that time
Top band and very influential to everybody that followed.
Varied output, they never stayed in the same place for too long.
Boris Williams was an incredible drummer only bettered by Stephen Morris. They also had the coolest bass player ever.
It was a golden age for music
PS Disintegration is a masterpiece
Some good songs like 'The Walk', 'A Forest' and 'in Between Days', but also some garbage as well. 'Love Cats' is one of my most hated songs of the 80's.
Very influential band With some real quality in their locker
I saw them on the Disintegration tour, cracking live band around that period.Originally Posted by Gluey wrote on Tue, 26 May 2015 08:49
The Cure - Boys Don't Cry (1979): http://youtu.be/ryImbOTDXe8
ONLY bettered by? So Stephen Morris is the best drummer ever with Boris Williams in second place? Please...Originally Posted by Gluey wrote on Tue, 26 May 2015 08:49

In that era and that embryonic style of music that created alternative rock. But both were excellent drummers in any era (if you know anything about drumming).Originally Posted by Howl wrote on Tue, 26 May 2015 10:20
I would put Pete de Freitas from the Bunnymen in that category as well.Originally Posted by Gluey wrote on Tue, 26 May 2015 10:59
Some very good early albums - became a bit hit and miss after Head On The Door (apart from Disintegration obviously).
They ripped off The Killers sound ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oFrrHtFbg8
Smith is a musical genius.
They are as good today as they ever have been.
I saw a three and a half hour 40 song set at the used be Hammersmith Apollo last December.
Still at the top of the game!
Yes Disintegration is their greatest work
IMO, they've released several trully awesome singles, but their best album, in true Alan Partridge style, is the 'Greatest Hits' one. Only ever saw them once, supporting Siouxsie back in '79 at Sophia Gardens, they were OK.
I think it's fair to say they've mastered the art of playing live .. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaFVhEFZzT4Originally Posted by AlwaysAway wrote on Tue, 26 May 2015 18:27
the remix album is good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phMX4DBafG4&list=PL8451E 098D0584584
Disintegration is great but the Cure are all about the Trilogy for me, Faith in particular if I was pushed.
I am a man of metal, a mans man
But some of the early cure is heavy as **** like sonic youth meets my bloody valentine shags the first sisters of mercy album
I have no interest in anything they did after Pornography. And I think it's about time that Mr Smith changed his image. Someone needs to tell him it doesn't suit a 56 year old and it just looks silly.Originally Posted by Spoilt Victorian Child wrote on Tue, 26 May 2015 23:54
Sounds like a recipe for a damn good album to me.Originally Posted by SLUDGE FACTORY wrote on Wed, 27 May 2015 00:01

I guess they came along at the right time, having access to the 50's, 60's and early 70's musical development, followed by punk, krautrock and disco. All the elements were in place to create a new kind of music that has remained viable for a lot of the bands who followed them, until this very day.Originally Posted by stevo wrote on Wed, 27 May 2015 12:34
