    CONDENSER MICS FOR RECORDING

I have a Stag Condenser Mic for recording on phantom - and it's f..ked. Can anyone recommend one for a portable recording studio (not for a computer - i.e. not USB). I can't pay more than about £300.

    Cheers..

Mate grab yourself a G8-40, the outrange isn't fully dynamic but you get a decent sonic refrab and there's plenty of scale D-loop on the trapple pharje.

    SE Electronics or Rode.

I picked one up off eBay in perfect condition within you price range, but they do cheaper models new.

I used to use a rode nt2. Was too good for my room, it picked up everything and sounded awful. In a treated room it would have been great.

My backup condenser mic is a Z5600A MKII and I can vouch for their quality

A reflexion shield in front and a duvet behind does the trick

I made myself a duvet cave, was not enough.

You sound exactly like the reviews I've been reading. You are indeed an 'expert'...

Thanks for you comments so far. I just wanted to add that the mic will be used with a Tascam Digital Portostudio dp02 - and I want to record voice and acoustic guitar.

If you have £300 to spend go for a Sennheiser.

Just a thought - from reading stuff on the net.

But given the fact that I do not have superb voice recording facilities, would a Sennheiser be a bit OTT. In other words, would my own recording system limit the ability of high quality products such as this to produce to their optimum.
For what you are doing SE, Rode and AT are the names that will pop up frequently on SOS and Gearslutz.

Rode NT2 or NTK. Another option is DIY if you're handy with a soldering iron. I've made a fair few different things, all of which are more complex than a mic, and I am a novice when it comes to soldering. You can find Neumann u87 clones for around 300-400 GBP and they are about as good as it gets.Regarding other gear... it will affect the overall quality of things. It is however possible to get one channel of pro quality recording for less than a grand. Which is pretty good if you want to record regularly and want to make demos etc.

I'd go with a sm58 for vocals though
