Happy to be wrong on this one, but I think Germany takes in far more asylum seekers than the UK. And not by a small margin, either.

germany do not have a national health service, and his a far richer and larger country than the uk. they certainly would not entertain the amount of immigrants that britain do. without a valid reason. and france do not want to know, if it was so good there they would not be queuing up at calais, trying to get over the channel, get real ffs.

Obviously asylum seekers are not the entirety of the population hoping to make it to the UK, but it's not like its just us that they are aiming for.

Chris, where are you getting your stats from? Germany took about 400k immigrants in 2012; the UK took approx 250k. Germany takes in about 5 times as many asylum seekers as we do.

In the grand scheme of things, a few thousand extra people coming here is t the end of the world.
The assumption by the right, is that they're coming here for our generous welfare state, but according to the left, this has been eroded to the point where we're starving our children. Which is it?
Clearly, the UK is seen as some kind of utopia as far as the migrants are concerned, otherwise, why not just stay in France?
