Thread: Labour leader election farce.

  1. #1

    Labour leader election farce.

Its like a train wreck, I know I shouldn't look, but it's compulsive entertainment. I know all political parties are coalitions, but are the Labour party factions so diverse that they are tearing themselves apart?

The usual kill Thatcher, spend more, give everyone a pay rise, lets triple our population and striking train drivers all appear to have gone a little quiet.

The truth is - it is an absolute dogs dinner of an election process.

I like Corbyn in that it gives everyone a chance to see a good difference of opinion - unfortunately most of old and new Labour dont think it's so good

Yes, families depend on you for that, so you decide not to vote against a bill which does precisely that...

Desperate times Sludge - the others are now campaigning asking their potential voters not to state Corbyn as their second preference - in the hope he doesnt get over 50% in the first round.

With over 400,000 new Labour voters having signed up - the large majority of them union members - then Corbyn will deliver a knock blow in the first round to all of them.

Seems a decent enough chap - and very principled - however - that will also be his ultimate downfall - just ask Clegg, Blair Brown, Major - to be effective you need to be able to swing in the wind a little on policy - if you cant then nothing is ever achieved.

Personally I hope Corbyn wins - as he is far more likeable than the others

Sludge - If he does win , and it looks like he is - what are the chances of a split - Corbyn Labour Party and a new LabLib party like the old SDP

Old Shirley Williams will be getting wet just at the thought of it - which is not a nice picture

I think Corbyn has pulled back the curtain, opened the window and let some light and air in.

if the centrist Labour split off and formed a party with the Liberals, then they'd be the second largest party after the Conservatives. The rump Labour party would be like the liberals today.

What party would that be? Firstly, Tim Farron was elected leader as the Lib Dem's and is more left wing than Clegg or Lamb and secondly, lib dems are liberal democrats and I don't see Chucka, Tristam, D.Milliband etc. as particularly liberal.

Personally, I don't think the main two parties should be as similar as they are.
