Thread: Are you a fussy drinker?

  1. #1

    Are you a fussy drinker?

    What WON'T you drink?

I'll drink pretty much anything. Not a particular fan of Campari and cocktails like a Negroni. I don't like cheap Scotch, but then again, who does? I've tried some pretty nasty East European/Balkan "brandies", I'd rarely ever choose a pint of cider and as I said in a previous thread, I've never had a pint of Brain's Dark

But if I was I guest in someone's house, I could drink any of them no problem.

    So who won't drink what?

Re: Are you a fussy drinker?

Apart from a couple of pints of Brains Bitter after our defeat by Watford last Christmas, I've not touched alcohol for coming up to two and a half years now.

Back in my drinking days, I did have the nickname "The Sump" for a while because of my "ability" to drink anything which had alcohol in it and apart from alco pops (I drew the line at them!) and Bacardi which, after an unfortunate run in with it at my first Christmas party as a working man, even now starts me gagging if I smell it, it was probably an accurate name to be applied to me.

Edit - typical me to think of things entirely in terms of alcohol, but I don't get what all the fuss is about with coffee either.

Oh, I'm not a fussy drinker. If it has alcohol in it then it's worth a go

Re: Are you a fussy drinker?

    Plenty I don't enjoy

    Hoegarden* (and other white bears)
    Budweiser
    Cheap strong lagers & ciders
    Ouzo
    Pernod
Jaeger* (I'm not allowed to drink Red Bull so that's out, and I tried a neat Jaeger in May and it was bloody awful)

I could go on, so it's easier to say I mostly enjoy

    some ciders & lagers
    Vodka
    Dark rum
    Cocktails
And my favourite tipple is Bacardi

*Excuse the spelling, I couldn't be arsed to look them up.

In my drinking days I would drink Bacardi through a Spira chocolate bar, which I used as a straw.

If you drink stuff that other people don't like you get to drink it all to yourself, winner.

Re: Are you a fussy drinker?

I'll drink pretty much anything except really bad wine, sherry, bloody mary, Stroh, and moonshine. I will not drink fosters or carling unless there is literally nothing else to drink.

If the question is: is there anything I wouldn't order at the bar? then the list would be longer and would include:

    Most lagers
    Stout
Any of those "hilariously"-named beers like Witches Finger or whatever.
Most red wines, and some white wines
Any spirit mixed with orange juice
    A third pint of cider
    A second pint of Fruhli
    almost all flavoured vodkas
sparking red wine (when did that become a thing?)
    cheap whisky
Aperol Spritz. It's become cool, but not sure why. It's horrible
    alcopops (do they still exist?)
