Remarkably the Daily Mail chatter about its gruding respect for Corbyn on the subject of Syria, even though they disagree with him
The Mail showed it's true character though when it was revealed that they were going to run a front page story about how the Corbyn factor had cost Labour thousands of votes in Oldham until the result was announced .

Although there aren't too many of them, those Mail readers who voted about the responses seem to favour the Corbyn line as well.
It's still a good result but to say they didn't lose votes is not entirely correct.

Share of votes is a far better indicator here I would think

Worth mentioning as well that the Tories went from almost 9,000 votes to just 2,500 and were undoubtedly the biggest losers in the by election. 19% share to just 9.4%. They took an absolute kicking.

I appreciate labour polling 60% in the by election was an overall increase on those that voted, but labour only polled 17,000 which is 6,000 less than they polled in may.
The Labour vote did drop by over 6,000, but almost one in three of those who voted in May did not bother on Thursday and the fall in Labour voters was not at the same level (around one in four of those voting for them at the General Election didn't do so at the by Election), so even the Daily Mail was sensible enough to realise that they would have looked ridiculous if they had gone ahead with the planned headline.
