Looks like its going t be a interesting one, be interesting to know opinions on people who have seen it
first couple ( guy with sweaty / greasy curly hair ) -- good luck to them, he looks a decent idea, not sure he has a brains to set it up, but would love him to prove me wrong, would like to see him have a little help and setup the " 2nd hand shop / house clearance " biz, not sure on the state of his house, yes they couldnt afford stuff as only on £100 a week, but a cloth and some water to clean the dirt and mould of stuff, thats free
2nd couple, with all the kids, a tricky one, a electrician who gave up work to look after his son ( who has some slow development illness, cannot remember the name of it ) now here is the issue for me, he seems to be setting up 37 different companies, now here is the issue, he had a job that he could have worked well around, work for yourself as a sparky and set your own hours, he mentioned when he phoned up to " get of the dole " he will lose £ 500 a week and now have to pay rent and community tax ( so thats 500 quid a week and rent and community tax paid ), surely setting up this party hire and portable zoo etc etc will mean he is out to work ? ? ?
now for the lady on her own with his 3 children, after the first episode looks a little lost, she mentioned she was going to go to college and get a qualification to help her get a job, but then had her 3rd child and couldnt, the child is 8 now, been in school 3 years, plenty of time, nice and tidy house and garden, not sure if she has many idea's. wish her well though
Just DL'ing the 2nd episode
so who will make a success of it ? ? ? ?
The sensationalist media for divide and rule
Poverty Porn
just interested in people's ( who have watched it ) opinions on who they think will succeed and who will fail
a little light hearted fun ( though for the P.C folks, not laughing at them or the situation )
we dont need to discuss the rights or wrongs of benefits etc etc
Was gonna watch it...but no need now. Cheers Blue Matt!
or we could just see it as a experiment to show that they are all decent working people who just need a chance
looks like its going to be a good seriesOriginally Posted by SgorauKoller wrote on Sun, 21 February 2016 23:11
pc = basic respect for ppl
I have explained what i meant, i just didnt want certain people to twist it as say " oh we shouldnt be laughing at them " or " its wrong to have a bit of fun saying who we will think will succeed "Originally Posted by adz-a32 wrote on Sun, 21 February 2016 23:20
i guess. i know you aint laughing but their lives aint a gameOriginally Posted by blue matt wrote on Sun, 21 February 2016 23:29
I guess to some they will see it as entertainment, to me its fairly interesting to see if they can make a go of itOriginally Posted by adz-a32 wrote on Sun, 21 February 2016 23:34
I saw one about major companies paying feck all tax.
It's a TV show designed for people who think that TV shows are the best place to conduct Social experiments.
I haven't seen it - but my predictions are
Wacky person - becomes a Celebrity Big Brother Contestant in 2016/17.
Electrician guy - ends up as DIY SOS presenter and gets his own gameshow
Sweaty Guy - New front guy for Wash & Go.
TBF it doesn't take much to get you ranting. Anybody less fortunate than yourself and you go onto autopilotOriginally Posted by blue matt wrote on Sun, 21 February 2016 23:13
Or are you just pumping out lines that sound good.Originally Posted by adz-a32 wrote on Sun, 21 February 2016 22:59
Curly Scouse won't have a successful business but will end up with a lifestyle business. I know plenty of people who have made a small living doing what he Intends to do. His dreams might need to be curtailed slightly though. But he will do enough to give himself a living, even if subsidised with tax credits.
Farm kids entertainment guy I wasn't sure about him but in the second episode he seems to be having some success already. Tough business to keep going though. Will end up potentially earning a decent wage.
Single mum. Well she is only going to use the money to support her in getting a job, so not much to fail with her. Hopefully she can find a decent enough job.
For those that think this is another benefits programming where you point laugh and shout at people on benefits its is most certainly not that.
The programming is based on work done in Africa. And could be summed up with why give a man a fish when you can teach him to fish. In Africa rather than giving handouts they have invested in people, given them a chunk of money and supported them in helping setupma business or simply better themselves. It's a scheme that has had much success in Africa but has not really been tried here in the UK. They are given a years maximum benefits and given support. It's investing in people.
So why did they choose that title I wonderOriginally Posted by Barry Dragon wrote on Mon, 22 February 2016 09:35
funny how we have had so many replies and even though i pointed out the point of the tread was for people who had seen the show to post on how they think the 3 would do, no fooker who posted had seen it ( other that you )Originally Posted by Barry Dragon wrote on Mon, 22 February 2016 09:27
to get people like you shouting and ranting about it, despite not even watching itOriginally Posted by Observer wrote on Mon, 22 February 2016 09:50
If you say Matt but the title of the programme refers to a ' handout". So connotations about benefit scroungers comes to mind. If the programme doesn't want to convey that kind of image why the feck didn't the programme makers think of a more reasoned programme title?
The only one with a chance is the scouse girl imo.
I'm not a interested in the rights or wrongs of the programme sorry but the other two haven't the capacity to run a business from what I've seen. The girl is looking for a job to sustain her and her family which is more plausible.
That's not aiming low that's playing the hand you have. The curly haired guy appears to have a mental age of about 8 and the "entrepreneur" has spunked £19k in 11 weeks on random tat rather than building something. He'll struggle to bring in the £500 a week the state were giving him imo.
There you go
Time will tell.
I don't watch shit. You are the target audience, I'm not even on their radarOriginally Posted by blue matt wrote on Mon, 22 February 2016 20:19
Anybody who thinks a single mum of 3 kids has "plenty of time" for anything is deluded
Now this would be a show I'd be interested in. Have you got a link?Originally Posted by Mick the Miller wrote on Mon, 22 February 2016 00:51
