And could be summed up with why give a man a fish when you can teach him to fish. In Africa rather than giving handouts they have invested in people, given them a chunk of money and supported them in helping setupma business or simply better themselves. It's a scheme that has had much success in Africa but has not really been tried here in the UK. They are given a years maximum benefits and given support. It's investing in people.
So why did they choose that title I wonder
.

Have you got a link?
Britain's Trillion Pound Paradise - Inside CaymanThe Town That Went OffshoreOne looks at large corporatikns that funnel some of their profits through Cayman to avoid paying tax. It seems they get away with it as they don't funnel all their profits through there.Second one looks at crickhowell. A group of small businesses team up to look at how Google funnel their profits around to avoid paying tax. The channel make it extremely simple and to be honest itnis easily the sort of thing ANY business could do. The Accountants will tell you it's is extremely complex accounting procedures but this programming breaks it right down. Both on iPlayer.

If you say Matt but the title of the programme refers to a ' handout". So connotations about benefit scroungers comes to mind. If the programme doesn't want to convey that kind of image why the feck didn't the programme makers think of a more reasoned programme title?
you could think its any reason though, not sure its that important

Anybody who thinks a single mum of 3 kids has "plenty of time" for anything is deluded
she does have between school hours, many do it, what with afterschool clubs and the like, she could be in work for 9 and leaving at 4 ( 4.30 )

How about more aspirational titles such as 'Unlikely Entrepreneurs' or 'The Real Dragon's Den'?

If any of these plans take off, then you could call future shows 'The Sink Estate Wealth Creators'.

Having worked with the long time unemployed from generations of workless families to help them get into training or work, I was always going to be interested in this. I was pleased that it wasn't (as so many cynics assumed it would be) 'Poverty Porn'. It was a really interesting experiment.

As blue matt said, I would be very interested to see an update in 12 months' time.

I felt for the single mum. She's exactly the sort of person I would have been able to help when I was working in employability. She was smarter than she gave herself credit for but as this last prog showed, she just had no confidence in the work arena at all. She'll get a job, with the right help.

The other two families were quite similar - the men had the big ideas but ultimately the women were the ones who held it all together. That Leanne woman was deffo the brains of that operation - her husband should let her make all the decisions from now on. The raccoon fiasco cracked me up! As for the other family in Hull; I was genuinely chuffed for the woman to get that cleaning job. To see her cleaning her own house showed how much pride it gave her to have a job. That's what it's all about. If the guy in it can make money at the booties so easily makes me think of giving it a go myself. I wish him and his son the best of luck. Lovely people and good programme.
