    Merthyr motor auctions.

    Yes / No?

Thinking of venturing up for a van.

    Any experience?

Old fleet vans, so ragged, but looked after.

Dont forget buyers premium and VAT when bidding.

People come from all over the country for the auction. Its a good place to get a van, just have a good look over it, and when yours is coming up go outside to have a look and ask him to rev the engine, look out for smoke.

Buyers premium is a % added to the hammer price.

Don't know what it is up there, but it can be between 10% and 20% added on sometimes.

    EG:--- Hammer price £3000 + premium of 10%= £3300 = + VAT @ 20% = £3960 (not cheap is it)

There is a decent new van sales place on Sloper Road.

Hmm no I must admit I am going off the idea.

I'd prefer to pick up a private sale to save the VAT anyway so may just hold out for the right one.

Be very careful buying from the auctions. I have come unstuck before and I kinda know what I am doing.

My uncle is in the car game and tells me whenever he gets traded in a bag of shite, it gets sent straight to the auctions.

Its worth going up just to play the game of `who the hell is bidding against me'

Having googled the place and on advice I'm going to leave it!

Any reason to avoid a VW caddy Jimmy?

Had good dealings and smooth experience with these fellers. No affiliation whatsoever, & just a suggestion.

Personally I didn't find it any cheaper, after all the extra charges they add and the VAT I found it expensive. I looked private for my van and saved loads, there's plenty of bargains out there just make sure you check everything is ok on the document side and check the vehicle.

Nope top vans .Look for something with service history. We used them on our rental fleet until they became ridiculously expensive to buy.

    What is your budget?

As A company if we have anything that is ****ed, ****ed it goes in the auctions.

It was £6k but I'm going to have a look at this one on Thursday. Think I need to spend a bit more for the new shape and this looks decent value all things considered. Thoughts?

Looks OK but sounds as though it is owned by a boy racer.
