I've always wondered the same , I used to think it was something the elderly caught as they were frail and had lesser immune system , than the fitter and younger of society .

My nan always used to tell me I would catch it because I never wore a coat, she also said I would get piles from sitting on cold steps, I never did

Having had it I can say that I caught it in a doctors waiting room from a guy
who coughed all over me like ferk for 20 minutes. His droplets from the coughing which
    I inhaled infected me.

I was coughing up blood , in hospital and unable to work for three months as it turned to pleurosy
and my lungs stuck to my rib cage.

I hope Marshall doesn't have it this bad.

Nearly snuffed it from what Marshall has a few years back , can catch it easily , mine developed into a blood clot on the lungs , my old dear who is a mad catholic even had the priest in to bless me , I was so off my head on the drugs they were giving me it could have been Ozzy from black Sabbath for all I knew , spent 12 days in hospital , weeks recovering at home , I love the NHS

    That's definitely a Nan thing.

    Re: Marshall suffering with pneumonia

My DR told me when I had it that because I was suffering from a previous common cold, my immune system would have been weakend and the phlegm that a cold produces can drip down into your lungs as you sleep and cause an infection in the lung which is Pneumonia. I think it is the most common way a relatively healthy person catches it.

    Re: Marshall suffering with pneumonia

It always struck me as something that only affected older folk, but I've heard of a few over 30s getting it in the past few years.

Good luck and get well soon Marshall.

There's definitely something doing the rounds lately which really gets into the lungs - not had it myself, but I know a few who have.

    Get well soon David Marshall.

I had it in my 40's - horrible virus and the only cures are rest, hot drinks and keeping dry and warm.

So unlikely to see him again this season given what it needs to be a footballer.
