Cruyff was my favourite foreign footballer as a teenager. 1974 World Cup especially.

He was the first (non Cardiff City!) player who I remember watching on TV, at the 1974 World Cup when I was 10, and recognising absolute brilliance in.
That Dutch team were superb and he was at the heart of it.

This is so sad. One of the top five players to have ever played the game in my view. It was disappointing he chose not to play for Holland in the 78 World Cup finals. A wonderfully gifted and graceful footballer.
What a shame cancer has taken the life of the great Johan Cruyff.

A football maestro in the ultimate sense of the word, the 1974 Dutch World Cup team were the greatest side never to win it. RIP and condolences to his family,the whole of the Netherlands will be in mourning today.
