A good film. Not black and white and certainly projects a grim image of what was going on.
Really enjoyed 71, the main actor is fantastic in everything i've seen him in.

Watched The Invitation this week which i enjoyed a lot.
    http://gb.imdb.com/title/tt2400463/

Also The Boy, which i laughed pretty much all the way through, sadly it's not a comedy.

    Civil War tonight,can't wait.

Agreed about 71, thought it was great. The invitation was good as well, I did enjoy it although I felt some of the acting/script was a bit strange at times.
Slightly similar to the invitation was 'coherence' (because it's set around a dinner party) which is worth a watch.

Other films I watched recently (not necessarily recent films though) which I enjoyed were: big bad wolves, ex machina, crimson peak, down terrace, room, chinatown, brick.

A couple that I didn't rate that highly (which came with good recommendations) were deadpool and the conjuring.

    71 is a brilliant film.

It feels just right, with a fact-based storyline and excellent cast.

Filmed in Sheffield, Blackburn and Liverpool - but 100% believable as Belfast in 1971.

Yep definitely gives you a feel that it is filmed in Belfast early 70's with a sinister backdrop.. Really well done.

Watched 'SLEEPERS' last night. Released in 1996,but still a hard hitting film. Starring Kevin Bacon, Robert De Niro, Jason Patric.
Four boys growing up in Hell's Kitchen play a prank that leads to an old man getting hurt. Sentenced to no less than one year in the Wilkenson Center in upstate New York, the four friends are changed by the beating, humiliation and sexual abuse by the guards sworn to protect them. Thirteen years later and a chance meeting lead to a chance for revenge against the Wilkenson Center and the guards.

"Look who's back" is currently on Netflix - Hitler wakes up in 2014 - kind of Borat Style funny and uncomfortable at times.

    Well worth a watch.

Saw Captain America: Civil War last night

Decent film, a few of the scenes were too long in my opinion

    Some good performances though

Fifty Dead Men Walking (2008) - Best film I've seen in the last few years. Real life story about a guy in Belfast in the late 80s who becomes a spy for the British Police. Well worth a watch. You will not be disappointed!

This film "Enemy" seemed to go under the radar. Maybe people thought it was poo but I though it was great. Same director of Sicario, Prisoners (also great) and Incendies (traumatic and great)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2316411/

Also if you missed "Whiplash" watch it. Brilliant

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2582802/?ref_=nv_sr_1

There's a Berlin based film, mainly in English, called "Victoria" that divides opinion. All done in one take. Worth watching for that reason and the music is great.

I loved enemy and whiplash (although I believe enemy didn't get a good reception on here ).

    Will check out victoria, thanks.

    Nice one Welshyoot...

Think we have similar taste. Add "All is Lost", "Ex Machina", "Nebraska", "Stoker" and "Under the Skin" to the list if you haven't seen any of them. Though lots of people hate "Under the Skin" i loved it. Very trippy and made by the guy who made Sexy Beast

I will do, thanks mate. I've seen (and enjoyed) both ex machina and stoker - I'll check out the others though, have had nebraska and under the skin on the list for a while but just haven't got around to them yet - with so many films and shows that come highly recommended, it's difficult to get around to them all! Maybe I'll load one up later on :)

Have seen Under the Skin. Scarlett Johansson is very sexy in it. It's a decent film. Nebraska is a cracking film. Made in black and white and very much a black comedy with some true to life moments. If you want an all action film Nebraska is not your film. I really liked it.

    Might watch this later then!

Bone tomahawk's another one that I watched the other day - thought it was great, along with there will be blood, and slow west which are both good westerns - much better than the revenant which I didn't like too much.

Slow West is great. I liked There will be Blood but was a little disappointed with how it ended. If you haven't seen it you have to watch Lives of Others. It's a German sub titled film. Don't let that put you off. Will give Ex Machina a go tonight
