Thread: Man City have been dreadful

    Man City have been dreadful

If this is the best they've got they have no right to be in a champions league semi final.

They look like they've been happy to lose 1-0

They needed to score at home to take something with them to Madrid.....it was a big ask.

Ten minutes to go I thought they'd really go for it, they might as well lose by three or four as lose one nil, but as you said, they seemed happy to lose one nil.

City looked like they were there to make the numbers up, completely overwhelmed by the occasion.

A side note though, how good is Modric? Dictated the game from start to finish.

man city have never been in a champions league or european cup semi final before, the pressure got to most of their players on 200,000 pounds a week

meanwhile leeds have been in 3, including 136,000 at hampden park in 1970, the biggest ever recorded crowd in great britain, comparitive novices in terms of the biggest clubs in this country.

Man City were in a European semi final today and they will play in Europe next season. Leeds were last in a European semi final 15 years ago. Now they're mid table in Division 2. Huddersfield won the league three times in a row once upon a time. I'm sure you'll agree it counts for **** all now.

i think most people would agree packerman, that apart from leicester winning the league this season, the premier league as it stands is very much a closed shop with only a 3 or 4 clubs in with a chance of winning it.

it is no coincindence that most of chelsea,s success as come and been bought with abramovich,s money throughout this period,

yes leeds did try to buy success in hindsight it just makes you wish you didnt bother, because looking at the premier league how it is today it as ruined the game and taken the competitiveness out of the league and given the big clubs with all the money a massive advantage. leicester have broke the mould this season but it will be a one off

winning the title in todays premier league, does not have the same kudos as it did before the premier league started because the competition is simply not there anymore. it has become a mini league within a league now.

as for beating leeds at their height, the o,leary side you beat in the cup, was not a patch on the revie side in the 60,s and 70,s

the same revie side Chelsea beat at old trafford in 1970 chelsea also won the league in 1955 when you were still in amber and blue

before the premier league came along and abramovich,s money packerman, chelsea won the league for the only time in their history in 1955, and their claim to fame was beating leeds in 1970, when leeds were the best team in the land, by a country mile, i rest my case

not a claim to fame, Leeds were well known for bottling finals in those days ps if you were these best team in the land by a country mile how did you finish 9 points behind everton

leeds were involved in all domestic competitions and european competitions for ten years solid packerman , they were the team to beat an incredible achievement at that time, they also fell foul of corrupt officials on more than one occasion, usually when it was a european final or it was going to cost them a league title, their trophy haul throughout that period is meagre in comparison and does not reflect their true dominance throughout that period.

Re: Man City have been dreadful

9 points behind everton but the best team in the land by miles

  23. #23

Re: Man City have been dreadful

everton won the league once packerman, same as arsenal, derby, liverpool, man city etc. but the bottom line is leeds were the most consistent team throughout the period between 65- 75. they were chasing four trophies on four fronts for ten years, and usually were in a final, semi final, or finished in the top four every season, no other club could match that record. anybody who watched football throughout that period will tell you they were one of the best club sides this country as ever seen.

Re: Man City have been dreadful

9 points in the days of two points for a win, thats a huge margin, ps Chelsea were only two ;points behind and beat you at old trafford, plenty of chasing, not much catching

Re: Man City have been dreadful

when everton won the league in 1970, leeds finished second in the league, reached an fa cup final, and a semi final of the european cup, massive fixture congestion that would not occur nowadays.

no penalty shootouts in them days, replays played within a few days.

what happened to everton the folowing season or the one after that, answer they disappeared without a trace , leeds just carried on picking trophies up left right and centre, well most of the time anyway when they was not been cheated by bent officials.
