On the ropes, maybe for the very last time.

Wonderful boxer , glad I saw him in his prime.

Life hasn't been kind to him since the glory days.

A thread I'm sure we can all agree on for once.

One of my favourite Ali quotes was when someone asked him what he would have been if not a boxer, he replied that he might've been a bin man but he would've been the greatest bin man in the world.

A true legend, hope he makes it but if not at least his suffering will be at an end.

I hope we can all agree with the OP.

Any other year and he may pull through, but 2016 hasn't kicked us in the knackers for a few weeks now, so i fear the worst.

Muhammad Ali.... The Greatest........is in his final fight

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/boxing...family-8110536

The Mirror seems to have the inside story on this reporting that Ali is in a 'grave condition' and that family have been warned to expect the worst. The US media are currently (9.00am Central) reporting only that he is hospitalised with a respiratory problem complicated by his Parkinsons disease which he's been battling in recent years.

I'm fortunate and old enough to have lived through all his fights which kept the global sporting audience up till all hours many times throughout the 60's and 70's. People around the world stayed up all night when he was fighting or tried hard to stay away from news until the bout was televised in the UK 24 hours later. stayed Ali was as charismatic out of the ring as he was inside it - so quick, so clever and so witty; his interviews with Harry Carpenter are legendary.

The man is a true sporting legend. Good luck, son and thanks.

I had the pleasure of watching many of your epic fights. You had a presence that transcended the sport, along with firm beliefs that you stuck to (Vietnam).
You were truly "The Greatest" - there will never be anyone who will come close to you.

A light has gone out in this world.

    Rest in peace Champ!

Can remember as if it was yesterday, queuing up at the Capitol to see his fights beamed live.

He made boxing attractive for millions, couldn't tell you who was World champion now.

    RIP, the GREATEST.

My best friend in school was mixed race. I always remember her father, who I thought was slightly mad, jumping up and down in the living room, shadow boxing shouting "I am the greatest".

I had no idea what he was doing until he took us the the cinema to see the film The Greatest, from that day on I was fascinated by him.

I am not ashamed to say that I shed a few tears this morning, not something I usually. do for someone I only saw on the screen.

    RIP a true legend xxx

Cannot simply be defined as a sportsman. Towering figure in the war against racism. For the western world to have a Barack Obama, first we needed Cassius Clay.

Many of us grew up with Ali in the 70's when heavyweight boxing was at its greatest and he was the greatest of them all. I reckon he was the most famous sportsman the world has ever known.

RIP to the most gifted and most charismatic boxer we will ever see

An icon in sport and in the wider world.
Whatever your thoughts about some of his antics the world is poorer for the loss of his personality and ability.
    Thank you for the memories

I'm sure many will remember his fights before wall to wall TV, middle of the night, to listen to his fight on some dodgy radio broadcast (BBC), the audio floating in and out, the greatest? without a doubt, sad news but not unexpected after recent reports. R.I.P
