Thread: One world government

    One world government

Following on from the European superstate thread, do you think, say 100 years from now there will be one overseeing world government?
Or perhaps you think that there already is?

I think it is inevitable, some of the biggest problems that will be facing us can only be solved by a unanimous response. Climate change, over population, globalised businesses avoiding tax etc.

If it does happen one day, what nations would you want to form the basis for it? USA? China? Or the EU?

I hope that, 100 years from now, most people realise that religion is a little bit phony and so, having released the shackles of conforming and arguing, people become more creative and more adventurous -and the world will be a better place for it. I can't see it happening though.

In 100 years time, the issues will be around the lack of resources available to the world's population. Some places on the planet will be inhospitable, and there will be wars over things such as water and fertile land.

I think that there will be settlements on Mars - although mainly scientists and their families. There could be some forms of mining on Mars too - but it would be infeasible to ship the mined ores back to earth. I also think that there will be manned spacecraft visiting planets further afield, and possibly plans in place to send a manned mission beyond the solar system.

But, mainly, people will be on an overpopulated planet, with fewer resources, less tolerance and more things to fight over. There will be more blocs and alliances, but earth will not be a one-government world because there will be even more things to separate people.

I would guess that this is already and has been for quite some time W.I.P. the brexit vote has derailed it currently, but with moves afoot to ignore the vote, it'll be back on track soon, if you like a bit of tin foil stuff

It will be a lot easier to predict who is going to win the World Cup, so from a betting perspective I am all for it

If only they'd taken their life into their own hands and made the most of it sitting in the house in Barry on ccmb all day rather than become the sheep that they are!

You don't know anything about me nor I about you, I do know one thing though, whatever I say seems to piss you off and turns you to personal jibes or makes you angry when I have only ever been civil to you, perhaps you should just put me on ignore if I bother you that much.

You're were being condescending and deserved the response. You don't bother me particularly more than anyone else, if I think someone is being a cock I'll usually comment on it though.

That's what it says in the manual, use personal insults to discredit people

Well apologies if I sounded condescending, that was not my intention, maybe I assumed that more people would know what I meant than they actually do, not sure what I'm meant to do in that situation though.

I don't agree with that. Nature has a way of restoring the balance. Look at things like black death, the plague, world wars etc. The only thing now is we are intelligent enough to devise medicines to combat plagues and sicknesses like them. So now we are seeing the advent of 'superbugs' and new strains of virus, which all go to reduce the population. Nature will keep the balance so all here can survive, if they have the will.

They should be brought up more often.

Yes, very interesting. Democratic Socialism via gradualist and reformist effort in democracies, rather than by revolutionary overthrow. In other words, controlling the media and acting as a gatekeeper for those who are allowed to enter politics. Obviously people like Corbyn are not very welcome.
