    Name that Tune

Just lost one nil but manager is happy

But, despite going down to the last-gasp strike, the Manager says that parts of their performance should give them plenty of encouragement – especially considering that Anzhi are two weeks ahead in their pre-season preparations.

“Our structure was better, our organisation was better and we played against a very good side,” he said.

“It was a competitive game throughout the 90 minutes; we perhaps lost a bit of shape in the final five or 10 minutes when we made numerous substitutions, which sometimes happens, but overall it was pleasing in terms of physical levels and I thought we looked fit as well.

“We talked before the game about valuing the basics and I think we did them better too. There is still more to be done, though, we have to value those basics, whether it is marking, tracking a runner or making a simple pass.

“These things are our jobs and we need to appreciate their importance. We made some progress today – it wasn’t perfection – but it was definitely an improvement.”
