I see Donald was left out for the Sussex game and I really hope Carey was injured yesterday because, arguably, he's been our best bowler this season. A couple of weeks ago there was criticism from an opposing coach that we had an "overseas" bowling attack, the reply from one of our overseas players was that he was here to help bring through young Welsh talent. However, it certainly doesn't look good when you could conclude that there is one criteria for the young Welsh players in the side and another one for the "league of nations" senior pros we have who are, in most cases, producing figures that do not justify their employment by a county with very poor results and very little money.

Another pathetic result yesterday - at the moment, we look like we're the worst team in the country this season.

Yes fully agreed. I worry about Donald. It is not good for a middle order batsman to be facing the new ball all the time because the first three wickets have gone down in next to no time. Carey has done really well but in truth the bowling is now as bad as the batting.

Glammy beat Essex by 1 run. With Chopra and Bopara in complete control it looked like Essex would cruise to victory. So two wins and three defeats in the RLC. Glammy still in with an outside chance of qualifying.

    Re: GLAMMY

Tremendous effort by Glammy today, great exciting end to the game and nice weather too. Shame there were no more than about 400 there to see it.

    Re: GLAMMY

It did seem an incredible finish with some great fielding by TVDG at the end to prevent the tie. Sad that the gate was so poor by hardly surprising given the dire start to the season. Still they showed fignt today against a strong Essex side.

Sounds a right nailbiter. Whilst pleased for them, nothing to really get over excited about (no pun intended).
Would have been a lovely day to watch cricket too but I suspect many would be attendees would have been like me, wondering what they'd do for the rest of the day when the game finished!

Did you go then Pearcey, were there many there?

No chance mate. I was busy sorting out our garden. I may have gone had the team made a decent start to the season. Sounds like BS may have gone and in fairness he would have seen a cracking game.

Wow, can't believe we've won that after needing 210 from the final 20 overs. A bit too late but still a great result regardless.

Yes and finally Cooke finds his form. Credit where it is due that was a fantastic win from where they were. Lets hope this is the start of something better.

I had to stop following from when Glam needed about 240 off 23 overs. Can't believe they got the win!

    Re: GLAMMY

I started listening when I got home yesterday afternoon and the first thing I heard was Carlson getting out. I switched off after that and didn't bother checking what had happened until about four hours later - there's not too much competition I know, but that has to be Glamorgan's best performance of the season.

As he did in the T20 last year, Ingram has proved himself to be one of the best one day batsmen in the country and, as Pearcey says, it was good to see Cooke, finally, make a contribution with the bat.

I'd like to see a few less Kolpak/foreign players in the Glamorgan side, but I must admit that the one we signed in the winter is beginning to look a shrewd acquisition - De Lange seems to have settled in now and he's showing an ability to get good players.

Another hundred for Ingram, Glamorgan currently 323-6 with eleven balls of their innings left against Kent.

356/7 is a fine score. Good to see the batsman finding some form.

Shame about the bowling.. We went to the corresponding game two years ago when Darren Stevens got a century. He has done it again today. He is 41!

Just out for 147 off 67 balls, what an indictment it is of the England selectors that Stevens has not played senior international cricket at any level.

Glammy win by 15 runs and finish with four wins and four defeats but not enough for the top three.

Go back to our sides 10/12 years ago. Where'd he have fitted in exactly? Flintoff was always the top dog.

Stevens at our place on Friday was a nightmare with the ball, forever been a thorn in our side

Flintoff missed plenty of matches through injury during his career - I think Stevens could have played then.

I've seen a proper all rounder being defined as someone who is good enough to get into a team as a batter and bowler on merit. Throughout most of Stevens' career, I've tended to think that he wasn't good enough at the latter to fulfill that criteria, but he's made me change my mind in recent years and you only have to look at his record with Kent lately to see that he is in their best two or three bowlers.

In test cricket, I'd still doubt that Stevens could ever have been anything other than a fourth, or even fifth seamer, but, apart from Botham, Flintoff and Stokes I cannot think of other England all rounders who have fulfilled that good enough to get in as a batsman and bowler criteria in my lifetime and I can certainly think of worse players than Stevens who have won test caps for England as all rounders (e.g. Ian Greig, Chris Cowdrey, David Capel, Adam Hollioake).

It's in one day cricket though that I feel Stevens has been particularly hard done by - I'd say there's even a case for picking him in the fifty and twenty over teams now.

Had you not posted these links I would not have bothered to look at the score. I have given up on the four day stuff as they are so poor. To have another run out is inexcusable. There have been a number already this season. This will be another heavy defeat.

    Re: GLAMMY

All we got to look forward to is the T20s and I bet that will be over after the first few games. We're shit.

  38. #558

    Re: GLAMMY

The club will need to attract a qualityoverseas signing to drum up any interest in T20. The authorities don't help though. There was no need to go straight to semi finals in the Royal London Cup. They could have had quarter finals to keep more counties involved.
