Glamorgan, surprisingly for me, win the toss and elect to bat - a four day debut for Steven Reingold.

Another 5 isolations due to covid. Selman, Joe Cooke, weighell included amongst them. Would love to know if selman was dropped because of the ping or if it was a selection decision. Absolutely moronic decision if it was tactical

I was told at the City game that Selman is going back to Australia and Byrom of Somerset will come in as a replacement.

Glamorgan 22-1, Lloyd out for a duck.

Talk of Critchley signing from Derbyshire as well. Batting needs strengthening... that's for sure!

Yes and I was told they were also trying to get DePlooy of Derbyshire as well.

Interesting - another very good player.

There was an article in the paper the other day about the "small" counties losing players to counties hosting the Hundered. It was on the back of Jordan and Salt leaving Sussex for Surrey and Lancashire. It mentioned that Glamorgan were willing to pay £30k comp for Critchley. Presume it would be a similar arrangement for du Plooy given that he's under contract as well.

Think we're missing out on a very good player. His championship form had nosedived last 2 years, but at the same time he'd become a pretty integral part of the limited overs side. Still only 25, showed he can occupy the crease in his early years, and can play the expansive strokes as he's demonstrated the last couple of years. I think he was really close to clicking as a real top class opener in the 4 day game. Hopefully he's heading back to aus to play state cricket

55/5. Normal service has been resumed. Interesting comments above about Selman who I feel has been harshly treated this season. I don’t think he would have been in the squad irrespective of covid with Lloyd and Rutherford opening.
Root seems to be really struggling and Cooke needs to regain some form as Cullen is unlucky not to be involved.

Root always seems so jumpy at the crease to me.

Three ducks in those five wickets.

Root really looks like he has no confidence. Averaging 29 which as a specialist isn’t really enough. In fairness to Cooke his average in the four day stuff is very good but he was very poor in T20 so needs some runs.

Back down to earth with a bang after the one day heroics.

I presume it’s ECB protocols (or Welsh government ones perhaps…?) around COVID contacts as thought it was now just those that test positive that have to isolate. Saw that the Surrey/Durham game has been postponed due to Covid as well.

    Re: GLAMMY

Rutherford’s out as well, 60-6 at lunch. Cardiff has been a definite putting in pitch this summer in the four day game. Even if the wicket turns into a road which the one against Northants did from about day three onwards, you’re better off batting second.

Glammy setting new lows yet again, 25-5 in the 2nd innings!

Well they’ve done their 10 years’ worth of success the other week. Time to down tools again.

    Re: GLAMMY

To be fair, having won a trophy that no one gave them a chance with, I would have thought going back into four day cricket in games that don’t really have anything riding on them must be a bit of an anti climax.

Worst four day performance of the season. At least it’s going into a third day.

I’d say it’s an avarage average (sorry) in the modern game - opening’s been a bit of a thankless task in the last five to ten years.

I wonder if Selman is going back to Australia and not getting a new contract. Overall he has done enough to get another couple of years.

The fact that he didn't open today suggests he won't be with Glamorgan next year, I think.

    Re: GLAMMY

Glamorgan really have some pretty poor players in the red ball game and Lloyd is on that list right now. Getting a thorough pasting at Durham.

    Re: GLAMMY

Selman included in Glamorgan's team at Durham today as well as new boy Byrom, but no improvement in their fortunes - 85-6 after being put in with Rutherford getting more than half of the runs, but looking at these lunchtime scores, apart from a couple of exceptions, Glamorgan's score looks about par for the course;-
