In our last two games we've been comfortably beaten by two sides that had a combined record of played twelve, won none and lost eight before they played us - I think Durham are a lot better than their record shows, but sides on long runs without a win must love seeing a fixture against Glamorgan coming up on the horizon, Leicester ended their run of no wins in three seasons by walloping us last year!
Against Durham and Derby we revealed our new approach to batting whereby we have gone from the one extreme of thinking innings' in four day cricket only last fifty overs as we get bowled out for something in the region of 150 to 260 to believing we are batting in one of those old timeless tests that were supposed to go on until there was a result - so, we've been scoring the same sort of totals as we used to do, but are taking two and three times longer to do so!
Finally, what on earth possessed Glamorgan to prepare a spinning pitch for the last four days when we have what is, almost certainly, the least threatening collection of spinners in county cricket? Just how bad we are when it comes to spin bowling can be seen by the fact that there was one over of spin bowled in the ninety two overs of Derbyshire's first innings and the additional spinner we picked (Morgan) did not bowl a single over in the game, neither did Ingram whose leg spin has probably taken more wickets than any other Glamorgan spinner in all forms of the game over the past three seasons - I wouldn't be susprised if Wagg's two second innings wickets came from him bowling slow left arm either.
They wouldn't have prepared a spinning pitch, they would have had to use a used pitch, which after the T20 international and ICC champions trophy would have left them no choice but to use a used one. A used pitch then by nature takes spin.Originally Posted by the other bob wilson
Interesting facts there which are pretty damming. They would suggest we not only prepared it that way which was bad enough, we didn't think it actually WAS a spinners wicket, until their schoolboy Qadri entered the fray.

Its a crazy game, firstly Glamorgan opting for the toss when they could have chosen to bowl. Then losing the toss and getting put in. There must be clearly something in the pitch.

Looking at the run rate it looks like we've reverting back to slogging.
Gloucester don't look any better than us so far as qccfc said there must be something in the pitch they're 26-3

His batting average is down to 27. Morgan in now and sadly he won't last long. Still another dozen odd overs tonight. Glammy could easily be 3 or 4 down by stumps
I was being optimistic. Three down already. Why the **** is Owen Morgan batting a three? They will be 6 or 7 down by close of play at this rate
If we can dig in a bit and send Glos into bat chasing something big like say 78, we might just come away with something.
24 wkts have fallen today so far, questions must be asked regarding the wicket, even allowing for our pathetic batting.
The pitch is clearly lively with a number of rising balls. You would have thought Cheltenham groundsmen would have learnt from previous problems. However we are playing against a poor side with a poor bowling attack and not the Windies c 1980. There are serious issues with our batting and the failed attempt to turn spinners into specialist batsman. It was obvious Morgan was going to be out quickly this evening.

This is going to lead to a points deduction for Glos. Some players out to balls rising steeply. Others out to balls that kept low. Our lot are partially exempted but even so the batting order is a complete shambles. It is not doing young Morgan any good coming in so high up the order when he clearly isn't ready.
Comments from someone on the Glammy cricket messageboard that the players do not believe the pitch is behaving that badly. Apparently 25 wickets in a day is a County record but am unsure if this is true.
If the wicket isn't playing up then god help the batting coaches.
You simply cannot have that many wickets in a day unless something is terribly wrong somewhere.
Croft said the wicket wasn't dangerous but did a bit of everything. Why Hogan didn't take up the option of making Glos bat first is beyond me. It was very cloudy at 11am so great bowling conditions.
There needs to be some straight talking at the club because what is going on is so poor and amateurish.
Regular run outs in the four day stuff is ridiculous, far too many no balls and extras in general, playing spinners as specialist batsmen when they are simply not up to it, batting collapses in most games, an inability to bowl out tail-enders.
You have to wonder what the hell is going on during coaching sessions because they do not seem to be learning anything.
Can only wish the ECB pitch inspector good luck in somehow to trying to decipher if Glamorgan's 15 wickets were a result of a poor pitch or poor batting.
