pound for pound team GB are way ahead in the medals table which gives us all a fleeting 5 minutes away from the humdrum of normal life. yet we have the resident harbinger of doom downplaying what has been a fantastic games for us so far.

Had the misfortune of being in a car with Jeremy Vine on the radio. His always crap debate was about funding, saying that each gold had cost us £10m

As if all the facilities that have been built are for a handful of people to use.

I think she'll be a little disappointed not to come away with one gold but the German, whether because she's had more racing over the last 2 years or another reason, seemed better in key departments and deserved the medal.

She'll be 28 by the next Olympics so hopefully with better preparation she can get the big one.

some people just don't get it. in the 80s and 90s uk sport was rubbish. now we are the best proud for pound Olympic team. we have formula 1 winners, tennis champions and then some. sport gives some of us a release. lets just bask in it for 5 minutes.
