Thread: The Canary

  1. #1

    The Canary

The Canary is a relatively new way of presenting news online, as it features groups of NUJ journalists who work collaboratively together on news items, supporting each other by contributing to different parts of the article in an online newsroom where all of them can see and approve the final article.
There is no advertising revenue which can often influence the way news is tackled, likewise it's not constrained by corporate or single owner polices when it comes to politics.

For those that are interested, this week's episode of George Galloway's Sputnik on RT features an interview with one of the founders of The Canary, who explains the concepts and objectives of it and also why journalism is increasingly shifting to online platforms.

Did they mention the George Soros leaks? Because nobody in the MSM has, even though they couldn't stop reporting about the Panama Papers, which was also Soros's handywork.

They wanted the Panama Papers out though, it was in their interests.

Soros funds the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), the group disseminating information found in the Panama Papers who then fed the western media with the stories. Incidentally they forgot to mention that Soros himself appeared in those documents.

They always remind me of this... we should have an 'awake' musicians music thread one night.

    Re: The Canary

    Who owns The Canary?

The Canary has been formed by Kerry-Anne Mendoza and Anthony ‘Roja’ Buck, both highly experienced in their fields.

Kerry-Anne is a former management consultant in banking, local government and the NHS who left her job to join the Occupy movement in 2011. She went on to set up one the UK’s top independent political blogs, Scriptonite Daily. She is the author of Austerity: The Demolition of the Welfare State and the Rise of the Zombie Economy. Her passion is the Middle East and she reorted independently from Gaza during Operation Protective Edge in 2014, producing the documentary film ‘Palestine: What hope peace?’ on her return to the UK.

Roja served as head of technology and international platforms at Just Eat, one of the fastest growing member of the FTSE250. He is an accomplished strategic and technical leader, specialising in the launch and maintenance of large scale, high volume, multi-million user technology products.

Left wing version of the Daily Mail. Equally as biased but from the other side of the political divide.

The only bias that I have noticed is one which places facts and accuracy at the heart of its articles and news stories.

Did you miss the lesson on critical thinking that states opposing information, views and theories need to be taken into account before applying logic and reason to the data in order to further one's understanding of the subject. Anybody getting their information from one source, right or left, mainstream or alternative, official or unofficial, will most certainly come across as being a dimwit.

Where did I say that I don't get information from different sources? I read all manner of articles from the right left and centre as I am sure you do.

You seem to have added 2 and 2 and made 5.

    Now that is dim!!

It's no good you making spurious allegations, unless you have definitive proof that its articles or news items are inaccurate or not based on facts.

You can read the editorial and contributing journalistic policies for yourself and/or point to where the news items fall short of those policies.

What't the point, you'll find a website that said "the jews done it" and tell us that it's "overwhelming evidence". The Canary might well be a decent source, but the likelihood is it's just another biased link that has the same agenda as you.

All news is agenda biased one way or another, just like the different opinions posted on this message board. The trick is to get at the hard facts, which is not so easy
