Anyone old enough to remember the wonderful nationalised railways golden years , glorious customer services, held to ransom for higher wages , strikes , outdated trains, signal failures , massive government/tax payer burden, not perfect now , but a whole better than back then

But I could go to Barry Island for 30p instead £30.

Think you might find it a bit cheaper than 30 pounds , has best value for travel, delivers a good carbon footprint, tremendous regularity, runs from the valley to the sea, got toilets, no traffic, lovely scenery ,comfortable seating, take yer bike, rarely breaksdown , politeness of staff.

Perhaps you can agree we have moved on .

Are you having a laugh about outdated trains? We have two hundred thirty year old bus frames still chuddering around South Wales, SW England and the North. Apart from the properly nice trains (think high speed from London to Kent, London to York) most services might be better than South Wales but still are not that good.

Today we have extortionate ticket prices for crowded and delayed trains. Also, some UK public hands in recent times have been able to make trains profitable and successful.

That isn't a reason why it couldn't work. The principles of capitalism that are supposed to make things naturally improve arent really valid in the case of the railways. There was no logic to privatisation.

Public ownership doesn't need to mean massive British rail sized organisation

Trains round here are really modern, probably about 15 years old. You have to be twister world champion to take one in the rush hour though.

I am just glad that there isn't a massive taxpayer burden, like in the days of british rail, oh hang on...

Thinly veiled 'I'm a train driver' post imo

Sorry wrong never worked for Rail, long term postie .

Just want to see the world move forward not backwards. I just can't see how nationalisation and adding to the public purse will help anyone. It's a different world we live in now which requires different solutions.

Train drivers high wages v health workers and teachers , and the continued unecessay strike threats imposed upon working class people earning much less than them ,needing that travel guarenteed each and everyday is essential .

We should privatise the military too, just imagine if they went on strike in the middle of a war.

And are you in favour of nationalising banking losses?

Horrific journeys on Virgin cattle trucks over the bank Holiday.
