Cardiff City's Declan John is doubtful for the visit of Reading with the Wales defender suffering a stomach virus.
Midfielder Stuart O'Keefe has started light training after breaking an arm in the EFL Cup defeat at Bristol Rovers.
Reading striker Deniss Rakels will miss the trip to Wales after suffering a suspected fractured ankle in Tuesday's EFL Cup third-round win again MK Dons.
Defender Liam Moore is expected to make his league debut alongside fellow new defensive signing Tyler Blackett.
Cardiff boss Paul Trollope told BBC Radio Wales:
"We scored two terrific goals last weekend, we are creating chances, we feel we have created in all the games this season.
"Our midfield unit are all important to us and we have good flexibility in there as well.
"Jaap Stam was a top, top player and is a great football man. You can see his influences coming out already as Reading manager, I am sure he has a top future."
Reading assistant coach Andries Ulderink told BBC Radio Berkshire:
"Cardiff play a 3-5-2 system and can play it out from the back, but also play it long towards their two strikers.
"They're a good side and very difficult to play against it, but we also see a lot of opportunities for ourselves to play our own game.
"We're very confident of getting a result."

David has been given permission to discuss personal terms with Hull City. There will be no further Club comment at this time.
