Did you know that in 1988 readers of the TV Times voted pumpkins the third most frightening, raggedy-mouthed, orange faced thing after David Dickinson off 'Bargain Hunt' and 'Wish you were here' presenter Judith Chalmers.

Also, did you know that the custom of Halloween dates back to 1184 when Pope Lucius III issued a papal edict demanding a tithe from all members of the catholic church. Monks in frightening masks were sent out on October 31st each year to collect a handful of Haribos from each household. Any heretics who resisted their demands were summarily excommunicated from the church and had their bins knocked over.

Halowe'en is a christian religious day dating back a long time. It is 'all souls day', the 1 November being all saints day.

It is the day that souls that have had to spend time in purgatory for their sins are finally released and permitted to go to heaven - hence the thing about souls wandering the earth (On their way!) on that day.
Like everything else it has been commercialised.
God help us they'll be commercialising porn next.
No no, sorry that was silly. That will never happen.

Do you remember the days when water was free and you had to pay for porn?

Rationing restrictions meant that trick or treaters were unable to obtain eggs during WWII. As a result, between 1939 and 1945, small boys were forced to throw powdered eggs at houses where the occupants had failed to hand over sweets or money. The real eggs were shipped out to the soldiers at the front so they could throw them on Halloween in a bid to boost morale.

Although like most Christian celebrations it is thought to be an assimilation of an earlier tradition

I consider Halloween to be like pizza in that both of them were European but commercialised big time in the US and brought back to Europe.
