A 3-2 defeat at Coventry today for the under-18s, Reynolds and Bowen with the goals. Four regulars missing, including Sion Spence, but they went ahead twice and Bowen had a late penalty saved, a point would've taken them top.

Rhys Healey scored for MK Dons today in their 3-0 win over Cheltenham, his third goal for them. The MK Citizen said he was excellent, who am I to argue?

I'm not sure where Rhys imagined he'd be now when he made a Premier League appearance for us against Chelsea as a teenager in 2014 but I doubt turning out for MK Dons against Cheltenham featured too heavily in his dreams. As I've said before on here though, he commits fully to every loan move he makes and seems to earn everyone's respect. More positive comments about him here, even though he missed a couple of one-on-ones yesterday.

Before he got his injury I thought he was playing well and was looking like he would finally break through and become our leading striker but for some reason never got a chance after coming back

The injuries he sustained at Dundee then here have made it a really stop-start career so far for Rhys. He's played in the top five divisions but I still wouldn't like to say what his level is, even though he's 23 now. I was surprised he dropped to League 2 but we'll see how he does there and where it takes him next. He's got over a year left on his contract, I'd love to see him make it here but it's looking unlikely.

Until recently, the club website was showing today's Development team game with Charlton as a 7pm kick off at Cardiff City Stadium, but that was changed to 2 o clock at Leckwith some time last week - judging by a tweet from the club this morning, the match has not fallen victim to the weather.

3-1 win for the under-23s today. I thought we must have re-signed Velikonja when I saw the score but apparently not. Hopefully TOBW will do a report in the morning (entitled 'Dawning of a New Era', I trust) but here's the club report for now.

No mention of Ibrahim Meite's red card I see in that report - here are my thoughts on only our second win of the season at this level.

Good stuff, thanks for that. Sounds a lot better, good football and under-23s don't often come in the same sentence these days. As I've said before, the squad isn't that well balanced (did we play with 5 in centre-mid yesterday?) and I won't bother going over the right back situation again but it feels like it's finally moving in the right direction.

Interesting to see who they play up front with Meite suspended. I assume Pilkington (or even Madine) might get a game but I wonder if Bellamy might be ok with letting Griffiths or Isaak Davies have a run out there? I know it's not been recent policy but it sounds like the under-23s might be moving towards the kind of football that would suit them. That 'wall' has to come down at some point, the sooner the better for me now.

Talking about Isaak Davies, him and Ryan Reynolds played in a 2-0 win for Wales under-19s against Poland yesterday, Sam Bowen was on the bench. Rubin Colwill is starting for the under-17s in Portugal this afternoon with Eli King on the bench.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...

I would have thought Meite was sure to get a suspension given the way the card was produced and the general acceptance of the decision by the Cardiff contingent.

As for who replaces him, James Waite played furthest forward of the central midfielders (we played what was probably a 4-5-1 cum 4-3-3 with Evans and Wootton the wide players, but Waite's advanced position often turned it into a 4-4-1-1) and he went up front after the sending off - he's played up there before and I think there's a good chance they'll use him there in the next few games. Pilkington doesn't seem to be playing for the Development team this season, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him, Madine and, maybe, Tomlin get a game each in Meite's absence, I'd guess this is more likely than promoting players from the Under 18s (if I had to guess, I'd say the "wall" will stay up this season).

Cameron Coxe is injured, but there's a disappointingly low number of our players involved in the Wales senior and age group fixtures played in the last ten days or so - I noticed Eli King played for the Under 17s in a defeat by Kazakhstan, but he was the only City player involved I think. That was a good win for the Under 19s though and from the little I read on the game, Isaak Davies could easily have got a goal - we have had a very poor record when it comes to producing young strikers since Earnie came on the scene, so it's at least encouraging that we had two, who are both well under nineteen, starting at that level for their country.

Pic of Sion Spence with his foot in a cast, thus explaining his absence. Apologies if this is old news.

Thanks for that. I saw last week that he was missing the Wales under-19 game through injury but you're the first to unearth the nature of it on here, as far as I'm aware. He must've done it on international duty in early September, he hasn't played for us since. I've no idea why the club are so secretive about stuff like this, it's bizarre.

Agreed - kudos to BOA for finding out about Spence's injury..

A 2-1 win for the Academy team at Charlton today having been one down at half time, the promising strike pairing of Isaak Davies and Dan Griffiths with a goal each. Back to the top of the table, 2 points clear with a game in hand.

City's Under 18s ensured that they would stay top of their league for at least another week after a 2-0 victory at winless Colchester today. isaak Davies put City ahead early on and then had a penalty saved in the tenth minute - Dan Griffiths clinched the win with a second goal two minutes from time.

Interesting to see that whoever was doing that twitter feed couldn't tell Davies and Griffiths apart, it's not just me then. Bellamy talked earlier in the season about having to coach young strikers to work with a partner up front as they are so used to playing on their own these days. Credit to him for making the Davies/Griffiths partnership work so well, especially as they are very similar.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...

Another giveaway by the Under 23s as they added to their sizeable collection of matches not won despite having 2-0 leads at one time. At least I've now seen Gary Madine score a goal for us mind - he, Connolly and Smithies all played and he nodded in a Cameron Coxe cross from close range to give City an early lead which they held until half time. Sub Jamie Veale capitalised on the Palace keeper spilling a Madine shot to make it 2-0 with less than twenty minutes to go and, with Palace (who had Scott Dann in their team) not having had an effort on target before then, a comeback for the visitors seemed miles off, but they got one back on seventy eight minutes with the best goal of the game and then three minutes later capitalised on naive City defending to level - by the end, the visitors were looking the more likely winners.

Neil Warnock watched the second half of the game - I doubt it if he was impressed.

    Thanks for that.

A lot of central midfielders at that level and we may only be left with Ralls at the end of the season in the first team squad, do you see any of them making the step up? Is Duffus still not fully fit? I was hoping he'd push on this season.

You're part of a very elite group to have seen Cornelius, Madine and Fred score for us. You should get a T-shirt made, other City fans will look at it and bow down to you in respect. Didn't Berget score in one of those games too? If so, did you see it?

Duffus played yesterday and did a decent no fills type job playing in front of the defence, it may not have been a coincidence that Palace got back into the game after he went off. Yes I did see Berget score for us, saw Burgstaller do so as well (he's scored for the first team in that game we played against Coventry at Northampton though I seem to remember) - here's my piece on yesterday's game

    http://mauveandyellowarmy.net/

but I'm going to start a probably doomed attempt to get some replies to it in a separate thread because we might have had a "wonderkid" in the side yesterday.

Three City players in the Wales Under 16 squad to compete for the Victory Shield in Ireland later this month. All three names are new to me and it's a bit disappointing to see such a low number from the club included, but I notice that Swansea only have two.

All five of those lads appeared in the Cardiff v Swansea u-15 game you watched last year.

I believe that's Ligendza in the top picture. You've seen him this season too (unless you'd left early to beat the traffic) when he came on as a late sub for the Academy against Palace, one of three appearances he's made for them this season. I'm getting ahead of myself here but would he be the first player named Siyabonga to play for City? I can't think of another.
