Vote Remain, otherwise the exchange rate will be so shit you'll need a credit card to buy a bottle of water

There was a good thread on here last year with lots of recommendations.

There's a lot to see so clearly you'll want to go and do things of interest to you. I'd get the New York Pass which gets you admission to lots of things, including the New York Water taxis for a day.

If you can stay in Central Manhattan for walking distance to most attractions, including Central Park, etc

If you let people know what you're interested in then we can be more help perhaps

Sunken Hundred, a new Welsh themed restaurant in Brooklyn. Not been myself but have heard some really good things about it. I think that they have a minimum number of 6 for evening bookings so worth dropping them a line beforehand if you fancy going

Thought along similar lines but it IS the land of opportunity.

Re: Wife wants to go to NYC

    I loved New York.
    Definitely going to go back.
When I went i wanted to go to the sea air museum bit it was closed for refurb work.
I also always wanted a hot dog with all the trimmings off a hot dog stall like you see in the movies, years I wanted one, don't bother , they're facking rank.

New York Rangers were playing ice hockey when I went and the missus wouldn't let me go.

Like London, the subway is the best way around the city.

    Shopping on fifth avenue.

    Central Park Zoo

I didn't get the NY pass and glad I didn't, just pick what you want to see rather than feeling obliged to go somewhere you maybe hadn't planned to.

Choose TOTR rather than ESB, miles better.

    Central park is fab.

    Walk the Brooklyn bridge

    Walk around Brooklyn

If there is any football you want to watch, the pub opposite the ESB is a great option

    Do the 9/11 museum

Try my fave pub 'The American Beer Company' just down from the Intercontinental Times Square

    Watch out for Tony Soprano

Do ice skating in central park if its winter.

And go here: http://www.unclejacks.com/ The midtown one.

    Here's the menu: https://irp-cdn.multiscreensite.com/...dinnercity.pdf

Expensive but it is worth it. By far the best steak I've had.

And prepare for everyone expecting huge tips = Tell them to buggar off.. My mother gave a tip once and the women gave it back saying "I think you need it more than me". Seriously. A waitress giving it the big one when they're were paying decent money for a BURGER at lunchtime.

Have a Manhattan in http://bullandbearsteakhouse.com/ as well. In the bar area not the restaurant. It is famous for some reason. Don't know why.

I'd avoid the statue of liberty. It is a novelty, but isn't worth the cramped journey on the boat. From the top it really isn't special, you can barely see out the head. And the spiral staircase to the top is one of the most claustrophobic things I've ever done.

Great suggestions, especially the Brooklyn / Brooklyn Bridge suggestion. back over the bridge at sunset with all the lights coming on was magical.

Agree with Top of the Rockerfeller for views, because you get to look out over Empire State and which is the more iconic view than looking out from the Empire. Chrysler building is worth a look at too.
We went up the Empire building as well TBH. Almost have to really ;)

The NY City Pass was handy because it got some serious discount and usually a fast-track past any queues, but point taken regards the choices, though it so happened to fit in with what we wanted to see on a 'first time' in NYC.

If you like Art/Museums there is an incredible choice but The Met - Museum of Metropolitan Art - was utterly mind-blowing.

For interesting eats: Katz's Deli - both for the iconic NY Deli menu and also the 'film scene novelty', and Lombardi's (ancient!) Pizza House too.

Unlike Nugent's poor experience with NY Hot Dogs on the street, we had a couple of really great ones, even though not really my fave thing and that was back when I was a raging carnivore.
Breakfast in a NY Diner is simply a thing of wonder.

Definitely worth talking the Statue of Liberty ferry cruise IMO.

    Amazing City.
I never seek to go back to anywhere that I've visited, only because its a big ol' World and we are none of us here long, but NY .. definitely going back, and cannot wait to do so .

Yes, of course 'The NY Beer Company' not the American Beer Company.

    http://www.nybeercompany.com/

Many pints of goose and brooklyn in there.

Also the ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island should be on anyone's list. Ellis Island is fascinating for anyone remotely interested in modern history.
