C:WindowsTempphp3AD0.tmpTrust chair Keith Morgan has made the following statement ahead of the 50th anniversary of the Aberfan Disaster in which 116 children and 28 adults died in the 1966 tip slide.

Keith Morgan said: “Following discussions with Cardiff City Football Club, the Trust is pleased to announce that the club will be marking the 50th anniversary of the tragic events of the Aberfan disaster of October 21, 1966 with appropriate pre-match commemorations which will include a one minute silence before kick-off (v Sheff Weds).

“The Trust asks all fans to try and ensure that they are in their seats in sufficient time to allow this silence to be honoured as best possible. Our thoughts go out to all those whose lives were changed forever by the tragic events of that day.”

Message posted this morning on the official Sheffield Wednesday club site:

Both Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff City will observe a minute’s silence and be wearing black armbands for tomorrow’s clash in the Welsh capital.

The tribute is a mark of respect to the victims of the Aberfan disaster as it approaches its 50th anniversary later this month.

The Aberfan disaster was a catastrophic collapse of a colliery spoil tip in the Welsh village of Aberfan, on 21 October 1966.

Both clubs will pay their respects to the 116 children and 28 adults who lost their lives and the families.

They were great , as we expected , when the Trust contacted them through their own Trust.

We needed to let them know or run the risk that their supporters would accidently spoil the silence through noise on entering the stadium because they knew nothing about it
