Thread: Callaghans pub, Castle Street.

    Callaghans pub, Castle Street.

What's the score with this place? Decent boozer in a prime spot, always used to be busy on weekends with live music and so on, and then it shut. But it's not been boarded up or turned into flats or whatever, look through the window and it looks like it's still in use, even the beer pumps are still illuminated. It's like the Mary Celeste of pubs. Very odd.

Used to go there every weekend about 10 years ago as some mates ran the live bands etc. It was a top night and got very popular, too popular in fact and that was its downfall. The hotel manager decided he didn't want a busy club aspart of the hotel so changed the interior, stopped the live music and basically killed a good venue. Such a shame. The £1.50 a pint deal on Guinness between 9 and midnight was a killer.....

Owned by the Holiday Inn now and open for only Private Functions/Hire usually. You may find it open however on match days in the City, not sure. Lovely Beer Garden for a barbeque with private bar.

Was n`t this called the Gatehouse years ago.
I remember hiding in here when Chelsea brought 1000`s to the 3-3 draw back in the 80`s.

They don't want loud music due to residents of the hotel. Not sure if some soundproofing would work or not?
