    60s is Stuart Imlach.

He never got a cap because back then you only got caps (for Scotland in his case), if you played against the Home countries. all of his caps were for games against foreign opposition. That's got to be worth a point?!

It was clever of Bob not mentioning the Man City connection in the clue for Asa Hartford. That would have been too easy. The only thing a lot of us remember about Asa Hartford is the hole in the heart thing. It's nice to see that he played on to his forties. Some of the less informed about medical matters, like myself, wondered if he would peg it during a game, especially as he was such a busy little player.

You're right, he was always the hole in the heart player in my house - my mum especially couldn't believe he ended up having the career he did.

The 90s answer is Richard Gough.

The Stewart Imlach biography is a great read. My Father and Other Working Class Football Heroes, written by Gary Imlach (of Tour de France and American Football fame).

Richard Gough is correct - the Stewart Imlach book is one I've always thought I should get, but not got around to. I'm reading "The Nowhere Men" (a book about football scouting) at the moment and so I'll probably make the Imlach book next on my list.
