Hell of a player.
Got to be honest though, didn't realise he was still playing.

One of the best ball playing midfielders we've had in my lifetime. Only player who comes close is Whittingham, but McPhail had something extra about his passing that was a joy to watch.
Never forget his screamer against Hull after about a minute, and that cracker against Blackpool (I think the last season at Ninian Park maybe)?
Fantastic player and a really gutsy man the way he dealt with his illness.
Thanks and all the best Macca.
It was! Hull - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43MdxB-mykg
Blackpool (rubbish camera work) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYdAfkkDm9E
When asked to name his City dream-team from players throughout his own tenure, Whitts picked McPhail and said:
"2007-08 Stephen McPhail. No question, Macca has to be in. His ability was scary. He kept the ball as long as he wanted and his range of passing was awesome.
Apart from his ability he is a brilliant guy and I still speak to him regularly."
Stevie Mac was not always popular with all City fans, probably as he had silky skills and employed them with a considered grace.
At that time many fans were looking to see out-and-out blood & thunder.
All the best Macca
