Thread: Brexit General Election - Hung Parliament Scenario

Many in the Tory party are pushing for an early election because they are so far ahead in the polls. They have committed to a full term though and labour might have got their house in order by 2020.
I don't think we will see a snap election though

There won't be an early referendum because that will delay Brexit and cause absolute mayhem with the negotiations. If the Tories successfully negotiate us leaving the EU then in 2020 they will still have a very strong hand to play. It's difficult to see how Labour are going to play it because it seems whatever they do they will lose votes.

Good point. Which is why it is probably in the national interest to have the Brexit issue sorted before a GE.

Which party's interest to you think would gain most from calling an early GE? As Bluebird since 1948 says, Labour are in a very position where they can take hits from virtually every side. But I can imagine the other parties making capital in certain scenarios.

Regarding the OP, surely given the power of the Brexit issue a UKIP surge must be considered. The most likely coalition I can envisage if a GE gave us a hung parliament would be Tory/UKIP

There can't be a snap election unless 2/3rds of all MPs vote for it.
