I really, really wish 'we' would stop trying so hard to indoctrinate 'ourselves' with so many of the less attractive aspects of Americana.

Not sure if that was a joke (sorry if I have been slow!) , but Llanedeyrnblue is quite right - Amazon have been sending out 'today's "Black Friday" deals' via email since earlier this week.

The whole point of Black Friday is that it's the Friday after Thanksgiving and most people have the day off. So traditionally, people would use that day to begin their Christmas shopping and department stores began to compete by having big sales. Having a version of Black Friday when everyone is at work seems kind of pointless.

    Indeed.
But we shop differently these days. Hence the 'virtual', online Black Friday that now seems to last a week.

Could you send over some of the countless thousands of good, decent, worthwhile, palatable American things/habits that we can set about emulating ?! Please!

edit: just seen you post above re Cyber Monday.
That will also be a 'British tradition' soon, no doubt whatsoever...!

People use it here because Chanukah falls between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Now you have Kwanza too. And maybe something else.

Same here. Just as the nonsense about people not being allowed to wear or display poppies etc, all designed with an ulterior motive.
