    Villa v Cardiff. Player ratings

    Ben Amos 6

Excellent speed and a smart save to prevent Agbonlahor from sealing the deal late on. Looked static for the second but in truth the ball from Adomah was inch perfect and took him out of the game.

    Lee Peltier 5

Warnock hailed him as an 8/10 player every week but a red card means he has to take a hit today. Actually competed very well and looked threatening in attack, too.

    Sean Morrison 5

Could he have done better for that second goal? His height perhaps suggesting so, with Kodjia soaring high above him. Excellent in the opponent's box yet again. Gave away penalty late on.

    Sol Bamba (STAR MAN) 8

Excellent display. Quick, disciplined and always popping up in the right place.

    Joe Bennett 6

Always tried to get forward and almost broke free on a couple of occasions, only to find he just couldn't quite get the final ball away. Suffered late on as his exposed side began to be overwhelmed on the break.

    Aron Gunnarsson 7

Absolutely everywhere in the first half and even got forward to support a number of attacks. His engine spooked and forced countless errors in possession from the opponents. Must be said, however, that Grealish began to get the better of him late on.

    Joe Ralls 6

Covered plenty of ground and ensured that Cardiff weren't overrun despite playing two up top. Bluebirds looked vulnerable after he went off.

    Peter Whittingham 6

Some excellent link-up play with Bennett in the opening exchanges. Not as influential as he can be on the left wing.

    Anthony Pilkington 5

Shouldn't have let Amavi past for the opener and doesn't offer the full-back the same protection as Craig Noone. Some good touches but couldn't find the right ball at the key moments and had to be hauled off by Warnock.

    Junior Hoilett 7

Subject of much sterner attentions from the Villa defence than Huddersfield but kept going and if Lambert had just been able to reach a delightful cross, would have had two precious assists. A major asset.

    Rickie Lambert 7

Tremendous finish and some very good work in open play. If Cardiff can start getting 90 minutes out of him it'll make a huge difference.

Subs: Wilson, Richardson (Ralls, 80) Connolly, O'Keefe, Noone (Pilkington 73), Harris, Gounongbe (Lambert, 73)

Aston Villa: Gollini, Hutton, Baker, Chester, Amavi, Jedinak, Westwood, Grealish, Ayew, Kodjia, Adomah

Subs: Bunn, Elphick (Baker 45), Bacuna, Agbonlahor (Ayew 62), Gestede (Adomah 74), Gardner, Cissokho

    Bookings: Pilkington (33) Amavi (59) Agbonlahor (65) Peltier (70) Gestede (86)

    Red Card: Peltier (83)

    Attendance: 31,384

Good to see the summaries behind the numbers.
Bamba looks likely to be our man of the season.

We should do. He's under contract to summer 2018.

I must agree on Sol Bamba again. This chap is quite some find for a free transfer.
