It has come out that a ex scout at chelsea sexually abused players/a player in the 70's.
The club paid the player to keep it quiet.
Most will have heard about this but on their forum they seem to think the payment was made 2 years ago?!.

A former Chelsea footballer claims the club paid him £50,000 to keep quiet about allegations of sexual abuse by a former chief scout.
Gary Johnson told the Mirror he had been abused as a youth player by Eddie Heath, who is now dead.
According to the Mirror, in 2015 Mr Johnson signed a confidentiality agreement and accepted £50,000 from the club, but it did not accept any blame.

Considering the reputation Chelsea fans have there are some decent comments on that thread,though you would hope club loyalty goes out the window with this kind of story.
Also willing to bet that Chelsea are not the only club to have done similar in a misguided attempt to protect their global brand name.
Let's hope that the investigation doesn't fail to root out all the offenders and any club cover ups, which there must be
