A bit of light reading to go in your Xmas stockings

    IMG_20161215_100017.jpg

Chess grandmaster Gary Kasparov has written a book about the rise and increasing authoritarian nature of Putin in Russia, and the threat his regime poses to the world.

I think it'd be very interesting reading.

Anti-Putin literature is quite popular at the moment: https://www.theguardian.com/books/20...-putins-russia

Kind of reminds me of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4zYlOU7Fpk

Might spend my own Xmas book token on this one: http://www.hup.harvard.edu/catalog.p...=9780674659681

To be fair for a country the size of russia and with its energy resources, it is frankly pathetic how weak their economy is.

What about his reign has lead to an improvement on that matter?.

People judge Russian leaders of their foreign policy, without ever questioning whether they can lead their own country.

This has been part of Putin's strategy, to make it all about foreign policy, and to present himself as protecting Russian values in the face of continuous western aggression.
He needs something to deflect from the internal issues

I’m glad that your brain hasn’t been infected by all the anti-Russia propaganda flying around, LK.

    What’s your Xmas book tip?

They openly prioritise foreign affairs rather than sorting themselves out.

The UK has a bigger economy. With under half the same population. Without billions upon billions of energy sources.

On books, I don't get through many but tom holland is the best I've had recently.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Persian-Fir...hollandpersian one is very good.

I didn't have a clue about the subject before it but he is easy to read.

    And roger crowley

    It won't disappoint.

I had to keep a phone with me to put down some of the names. He goes into ancient greece and I was forgetting who was who quite often as there are a lot of players.

Probably more to do with the fact I skip quite a few days between reading though.

I think he used the fake word one time too many, but he was probably given a quota

His research consists of going against the party line and fabricating stories a lot.

I was joking man, but as a matter of interest, could you please tell me how many books have been written by famous non-authors, that were not ghost written.

I would suggest, though that Garry Kasparov is far more likely to have written his own book than Jordan or Ronnie O'Sullivan.
He's very much a political activist these days and even attempted to stand for president at one point.

Was it a CIA/Soros backed bid to become president? Only kidding haha.
