Thread: Hey Bo Diddley

    Hey Bo Diddley

I came across this by chance, only two minutes long but it's terrific.

No City link although the way Bo moves to his microphone at the start bears comparison with Rickie Lambert in a counter-attack.

Try the James Brown stuff from the same TAMI show. Worth a look.

    Re: Hey Bo Diddley

I saw him in New Orleans years ago he had the crowd in the palm of his hand within about 3 seconds. The best rhythm guitarist I have ever seen.

Classic stuff. Unusual to see one of the backing girls playing a guitar though? Love their hairstyles - Motown style!

    Re: Hey Bo Diddley

The girl playing the guitar was 'The Duchess'. Saw Bo at Southampton when the Rolling Stones opened the show! Also saw Sister Rosetta at Portsmouth with Muddy Waters in the R&B caravan.

Preferred Elias McDaniel and McKinley Morganfield meself

That was in August '84. Awesome!! Bo's band that day included the great Eric Bell (thin Lizzy's original guitarist). Biggest crowd I ever saw at the carnival

Some great pics, there, thanks for the link. I went to most of the Butetown Carnivals in the 80s, if not all of them. Saw some great acts, each and every year

Great bit of nostalgia there, thanks for that.
Jeez I feel old after seeing some of those pics.
Went to many of the Butetown carnivals.
I remember the merry go round in one of them... was an absolute death trap with no safety checks.

Ah, they were the days watching bands for nothing and supplying your own booze and herb.... even Glastonbury was free back then, to some of us anyway

    Re: Hey Bo Diddley

Some interesting stuff. Thanks for the recommendations (James Brown sure could dance, incredible).

Here's what I was looking for when I stumbled across Hey Bo Diddley. It's an instrumental by Bo that John Peel would play now and again, Mumblin' Guitar. No live footage I'm afraid but worth a listen.
