Rooney finally equals United scoring record

In about 200 games less than sir bobby, but he does play further up the field.

It's unbelievable he gets any stick. Remarkable achievement and I think he got a few years left in him. England are lucky to have had a Wayne Rooney.

Brilliant effort. Was discussing earlier if that would make him Utd's most celebrated player but it's difficult to choose an all time best for Utd.

He's going to be their record scorer but would you rate him a better 'legend' than Charlton, Best or Beckham?

And surely Giggs is their most successful player with all the trophies he's won.

Oh and at HT it's Utd 2 - 0 Reading. (It should be 7-0, they have battered them), which means if Utd go on to win and we lose tomorrow then we will play Reading away in the league on Jan 28th.

Stunning player , scored his first at 16 , then cycled home to his mates

it doesn't show it in that clip but there more footage when the camera is on Bobby Charlton and when the goal is scored Charlton smiles at Utd scoring then seems to realise it's Rooney and his expression changes to a 'aww **** it' look

**** me if Reading are amongst the best the Championship have to offer then we might as well end promotion and relegation.

They are both great players but it is an odd coincidence that they are both famous for novel approaches to their balding heads: Charlton with his awesome comb-over and Rooney opting for multiple hair transplants.

Agree with this. Fair comments regarding the amount of games and position played BA, but there are factors one should be mindful of when making comparisons from different eras.

The pitches are like carpets these days compared with grassless quagmires of yesteryear.
Also, the balls these days bear little resemblance to a football in Charlton's day,
    Footwear: slippers vs gumboots!
All of the above much more suited to scoring goals.

Then there's injury treatment, get injured in Sir Bobby's day and you were told to "stamp it in"!
    Aftercare and surgery...say no more.

That all said, this is a great achievement and Rooney will achieve legendary status as Sir Bobby has.

The main criticism of him from people I know is that "they play more games now".

    Which doesn't makes much sense.

    Maybe in internationals.

    200 games less.

Maybe he should get some credit!.
