He's had surgery.
"Ryan is in a stable condition and expected to remain in hospital for the next few days," said a Hull statement.
Serious, but fighting for his life? doesn't look like it.
Lets hope he can make a full recovery and continue with his career.

Regarding the excellent treatment he has apparently received, he is probably lucky this happened at Chelsea and not at Hull.
