It's a good job our public transport system is the envy of the world or this idea would seem ridiculous.

Living in Creigiau we can't even get Cardiff bus! We have to put up with stagecoach valley bus charging £5 each way instead of £1.80.

If Cardiff council want encourage people to use public transport, they should make sure their own bus company accesses the whole of the city!

In fairness a few years later than expected but the Council along with a lot in UK are very jealous of the free money in London for doing very little .
I've been sure since about 2008 they have been making entering the City more difficult by design , including more bus lanes , bendy buses etc .
Canton used to be an easy drive through except at rush hour , but the council changed it , also Albany road , Whitchurch road etc.

The council have a vision for getting more commuters on bikes (they currently claim 9% get to work on a bike). Thry seem to want to achieve this by having awful roads, expensive parking, a train system creaking at the edges and a woeful bus service.

Have any of you got any constructive ideas on how to reduce congestion in Cardiff? It's only going to get worse if all the housing the LDP goes ahead

Nope the traffic is awful but improvements in public transport is key.
Cardiff Bus is unreliable and wasn't there talk of train links in the East of the City?

Widen the main roads into town and improve public transport. Incentivise supermarkets to allow their car parks to be used as car-share hubs. More, and better placed, and more efficient park and rides.

And while we're at it, can we reintroduce the death penalty for cyclist who ride on the pavements?

    Re: What a joke

I live in North Cardiff, there are three rail stations within a 5-15 minute walk with at least 6 trains an hour into town and busses about every 10 minutes all day. As such I very rarely use my car as it's much easier to use the train. If it were possible to have this kind of service in the East and West of the City then you would get many more people out of their cars. They simply have to make public transport a more attractive proposition than driving. There is some hope with electrification and the Metro but I can't help but think that, given the money they are proposing on spending on it, this project is going to be a bit half arsed.

how does public transport work if you have 4 bags of heavy tools? Plus a laptop. Plus a week worth of clothes.

Better public transport frees up the roads for those people that are, for various reasons, unable to use it.

Widening the roads isn't option for many roads.
Do you think the reason thenexisting park and rides are under used is because they are in the wrong place and inefficient? Is so, where would you move them to and how would you make them more efficient?

    Re: What a joke

All it would do in regards to Cardiff, is drive the traffic onto other roads.

Say you were going from Llanishen to Penarth (F uck kows why) and your usual route was through town, then you would change to Western Avenue and Canton, to reach your so called posh friends

It's so difficult to ride on pavements these days with all the parked cars blocking them.
