    Wheres the gas man?

Missus again decides to do stuff without consulting me.
She gone and got the gas man to stick a meter thing on now the kids have grown up and fooked off.
Between 9 and 5 today I've been told.
Nearly 3 and no gas man.

    Smart meter?
They're useless unless you intend staying with your current supplier forever.

Wait until they're cross-supplier compatible. Even then, they're more for their benefit than ours.

I don't really see the point of these.

Unless I'm missing something, surely all they do is tell you how much gas you use?

I've had something similar for quite a while now - it's called a gas bill.

Not my decision lads. It's the wife. Who incidentaly is the worst for wasting energy.
Every day she leaves her straighteners on till the over heating setting kicks in.
    Lights always on.
Spends 30 mins in the shower etc.

Never mind, you've got your smart meter now.

So you'll be able to see precisely how much her wasteful attitude is costing you and the planet.

personally I'd pack her bags and find a more frugal wench to grow old with.

They tell you, in "real time" how much you're using, by amount of energy or cost. (apparently - I haven't got one)
But they also send that info to the company that installed it.
So they can up your charges if you use more than normal.
Bet they don't lower them if you use less.

    BUT...
if you change supplier, like we're always being told we should, it becomes a piece of junk.

    Re: Wheres the gas man?

A programme on TV about them last week was pretty damning.
They are free to the user but every customer in the UK will be charged an extra £350 to cover the the 12 billion it is costing to roll out this scheme.
They will save the gas & electricity companies 8 billion a year which will not be passed on to the customer.
If you are already sensible in your gas & electricity usage there is no point in them as the only way you can save money in that situation is to sit in the dark or cold.
The programme showed that the average customer could save £1 a week IF they watched the displays readouts carefully & identify something that is running that is not needed & turn it off.
They are definitely not for the customers benefit, why would they be ?
Why would a company making money from you using it"s product want you to use less ?
